Hi just a little confussed here. Thinking about buying a cheap 97 Vr4 rear diff(AYC). Have asked the seller if it was auto or manual car, they replied it was out of an auto but it does'nt matter if you have a manual or auto it will still work. My question is this.. I have a manual VR4 and I assumed that the diff had to be of the same type as ratios are different from manual and auto. Wouldnt the diff conflict with the transfer box?? Or do I need to go back to Wintec for more tuition on mechanical fundamentals??/rally

yes and no. it just all depends if the final drive has a different ratio between auto and manual, which you have staed (sorry i dont know if they are different in the vr4)

it wont screw the tranfer case - it will just alter top speed/acceleration

no, it doesn't matter at all, they are the same part in either car.

I agree, They are all the same ratio.

The gear ratios are different , manual to auto. But the final drive is in the gearbox, before the output shaft. The output shaft is identical on both types, as is the transfer box and the rear diff.

The seller is correct, it doesn't matter.
