Hi everyone, I'm new here, and I come armed with questions. I've been looking around at what car to get next, and I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the VR-4, especially after I tried to 'persuade' INSERT INTO post VALUES (;) ) my aunt that she needed one when Ralliart started bringing them over. She never did get one, but I've seen the old shape ones around for about £7k, with about 60k miles on the clock, and it's a mighty tempting prospect. I would prefer the current shape one, but alas, 'tis far beyond my price range INSERT INTO post VALUES (or is it? anyone seen cheap facelift models?). So, what do people think of the VR-4? Good? Good vfm? What's ownership and reliability/running costs like? I'd appreciate any help everyone, thanks in advance!

Bloody hell, you again as well! Notice how I couldn't be arsed to write something new, and just pasted from the lancer register. Clever that :) You could have at least answered another of my questions :D ! I've already had a poke around and found the faq bit very useful, and am slightly disappointed to find that the earlier autos were 260bhp, especially as I can't recall seeing a manual VR-4 for sale yet. I haven't even got one yet, but I'm already thinking about tuning as well; where did you get your bits from? TDi do Galant tuning: looks like circa £7k would get you up to around 550bhp... wonder if anyone here would ever go 'all the way' ;) I'll look around some more, like you say I'm bound to find something, who knows, I might even get one soon.

We have the earlier shape one aswell - so far have only fitted the HKS super power flow to increase the BHP but currently looking into the ECU situation to see if the old one can be tweaked.

Are we happy with it ? Damn right - bloody great car to drive, damn quick, good fun, gets lots of looks etc etc !

Running costs are not cheap but then we were prepared for that and we are lucky it is our 2nd car so does not do a lot of miles. Hope you take the plunge and join us !

LOL, Hello mate.
You see, I'm like Santa's Reindeer - I'm only usefull for a few hours a year. ;)

Dazboy on this forum is selling his also.
Magnum Motors have the older shape model for just under £11,000 or Xtreme have a later shape model for just under £12,000, both have done less miles than you just said.
Have a search on AutoTrader, I'm sure I saw one for under £10,000.
You may be lucky and get one for £7,000 but I'd be very wary about its condition and state of service as these cars are very specialist.
Service is every 4500 miles.
Fuel is between 7 and 25 mpg, I managed 23 ish without having any fun.
Mine is a second car so the fuel isn't really a problem.

Reliabilty is very good unless it goes wrong. ;) build quality is superb!
Comes with all the toys I'd ever need.
It's their rarity that does it for me.

If you can afford it, GET ONE!
