hey guys, just a quick question, how easy is it to convert from tiptronic to manual?

Cheers

Don't you have a FWD car? It will cost at least $1500-2000 for the parts, and about the same amount for labour.

Surely it would be easier and cheaper to just buy another car :)

It is not an easy job, but no worse than the same conversion on most other cars. I am planning to do it at some point in the future and have most of the bits I will need already. Maybe when I have done it I will say it's harder than I think it is! But without a shadow of a doubt it will be a dashboard removal and engine out job.

It will not be cheap, so it would be better to wait for the one you want and/or pay a premium on a manual.

so what do you need to do a manual conversion other than a gearbox?
i might have a manual gearbox spare, and if i get a VR4, might go down the manual route

The right gearbox as a start. Is your gearbox from a 4WD galant?

Plus:

Pedals and mountings, gear lever/selector and linkage, clutch master & slave cylinder and linkage, clutch and flywheel, plus possible drive shafts for the front. The procedure also includes cutting a hole in the bulkhead for the master cylinder and modifying the ECU/signals to the ECU (I'm not sure how yet)

Maybe for a good mechanic, but certainly no less. The engine needs to come out and the whole dashboard, maybe including the carpet, which means seats etc. A fair portion of the car needs to be stripped down!
