Guys, does anyone know what the VR4 is rated in terms of carbon emmisions (i.e. g/km).

Surely tonnes / km?

No idea? Why do you want to know? I'm sure it isn't good.

probably enough to build its own carbon bonnet

Given that if you stand behind a VR-4 with the engine running you end up looking like Han Solo at the end of the Empire Strikes Back...

...I'd say the carbon emissions somewhere between Star Destroyer and Death Star

Seriously, we don't know - they were never EU Type-Approved, so there's no C02/km data for them.

yet to see an official figure for the VR-4 - but just be glad it isn't an M1 approved car in the UK and doesn't come under the umbrella of CO2 linked car tax /Grrr

Not that I'm bitter ...... not that I've just shelled out more to tax my 2.0 16v than it costs to tax a VR-4 or anything :inquisiti

Why do you want to know? I'm sure it isn't good.

We have a tax over here in Ireland (illegal according to the EU!) called Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) its levied on all cars imported into the country. At present, it currently runs at 30% of the Open Market Selling Price on cars with an engine size above 1900cc. Later on in 2008, VRT will be changed and based on carbon emmisions as opposed to engine size, I reckon that new rate for the VR4 will be in the region of 35%.

Just found this on a google search:

"When we fill our cars up at a petrol station we don’t tend to buy petrol by the kilogram, we buy it in litres. Given that octane has a density of 0.702 kg/l can you now calculate the volume of carbon dioxide produced at room temperature and pressure when 1l of octane is burned? Show your workings in the box below.

Use these figures to check your calculations:
704 g of carbon dioxide and 324 g of water are produced by burning 228 g of octane
3.09 kg of carbon dioxide is produced by burning 1 kg of octane
1685.5 litres of carbon dioxide are produced by burning 1 kg of octane
1183 litres of carbon dioxide are produced by burning 1 litre of octane"

Should be able to work out VR-4 CO2 emissions from the above and our mpg figure (assuming stoichimetric AFR) but it's too late on a Friday night for me to get my head round it...

Maybe I wasn't as pi$$ed as I thought....

Assuming an MPG of 20:

Miles to km conversion factor 1.61
km/G 32.19
G to L conversion factor 4.55
km/L 7.08
L burned in 1km 0.14124
Octane Density 0.70200 kg/l
kg burned in 1km 0.0992
kg CO2 per kg octane burned 3.0900
kg CO2 per km 0.3064
g/km 306.4

Well calculated mate. Congrats and thanks.
Does it mean that our VR4's will be taxed at highest rate in the new taxation scheme next year?

I don't think we have any actual reason to find out, lets just all plant a tree for every tank of fuel we burn :)

My last MOT, the guy tested it with the de-cat and it was pretty high, should have noted it really.

g/km 306.4

Slightly more than I would have expected but certainly not surprising. Nice work!

Don't know but I know it is very very very bad. So bad that it is one heavy polluter in our environment :) :D

CJErrr ... Talking about carbon emissions ... and a VR-4 in the same sentence./pan

You don't buy a VR-4, if you care about the environment.:pimp2:

A VR-4 is only for /rally
