i have managed to find that this is possible with the E39A box that i have purchased, as its going into the rear of a race car, ala mid engined rwd, but the cost of a custom conversion is, shall we say a bit frightening. does anybody have any knowledge of doing this conversion to 2 wheel drive only. thanks in advance

I was going to ask why on earth you would want to go from 4wd to 2wd but if it is for racing then I guess there are restrictions that you need to comply with...

the reason for FWD only is because the engine trans unit is sitting behind the driver ala Mid engined, driving rear wheels , i would post a pic if i could figure out how but if you want to check it out go here, http://s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff257/stryka_01/
all i have to do now is identify the box i got
numbers are KA 60 EJPH--- JE 5225, all i can tell you is it has a slippery diff [bonus]

New problem, went to fit gearbox to engne with new clutch installed , and the flywheel is to big, clutch just fouls on a raised section of the bellhousing opp drive shaft, looked at 4wd box and that raised section aint there. i remember something about a smaller flywheel being mentioned when i spoke to Alport Motor sport, about this conversion, can anyone throw some light on it for me

The 4g63 was used in the 8th gen, without the turbos etc. Will the gearbox from that be the right one? And if so, then the clutch and flywheel could be what you need?

Unfortunately, I don't have part numbers. I think the chassis code is EA2A but hopefully someone who knows more can confirm.

Good luck with the project - it sounds like it could be fun!

Thanks Nick i think ive sorted flywheel etc, the guy i bought the box off still has the flywheel etc, he thinks,I hope, and gave me some more info , box is an F5M2 out of a 90 2ltr turbo galant fwd. so all i have to do now is find the ratios etc for it.
project comming along, Aiming for 300hp and a car weight under 600kg, should be quick enough for starters.
