Heats the bottom part of windscreen

Yep, as Nick said ....... it heats the very bottom part of windscreen so that on heavy ice/frost days the windscreen wipers will be free to move from their 'rest' position.

And having that function also shows you've got a 'Cold Area Specification' car - So your battery and alternator are beefier too! :scholar:

Booooo, hissss, I want one, it's getting cold here now! Wonder if I can reto-fit the switch and mirrors (which incidentally it shoud heat too) onto my warm area car? I'm sure when working on the old car I found an extra unused connector behind that panel.

The heated rear window switch heats the side mirrors as well ............. (well, it does on my pre-facelift '98 saloon)

Bah-humbug. There was a discussion about the heated mirrors and I definitely don't have them on my warm area spec car. Had hoped it would be sorted this way, oh well.

Is this really true? Have Mitsubishi spec'ed up cars destined for colder climates? how did they govern the sales and distribution etc?

Just ran out and checked mine...weeeheee ive got a cold area specified car /Brolly

That's right... oh for a Cold Weather Pack eh...?! I've never heard of one of those on these cars..!

Random question - next time someone is out may you measure and let me know what the height of the windscreen glass is please... from the bottom (by the wipers) to the top of the glass?

Thank you in advance - I would do it on mine, but I'm picking it up next Sunday - just want to compare the glass area to my existing 6th gen Galant.

Lee - are you sure you don't have heated mirrors? I'm suprised that is the case, I don't think I have ever seen a VR4 that doesn't have heated mirrors!

The heated strip on the bottom of the windscreen is good for helping the glass heat up on cold mornings, too. Not like a ford screen with elements in, but a help none-the-less.

Nick - most definitely no demisting going on on this car or the prvious one. Having had my SAAB with all the lovely goodies on it I checked to see if they had this invaluable feature when purchasing the first one but assumed the Japs didn't bother with luxuries on the VR4.

Such a shame. I have had 5 Galants, inc 3 VR4's now, and each one of them had heated mirrors.

Bad luck, bud!

so it warms up the wipers ??? why not all screen then ??

Because there aren't elements in the whole screen?

Rather than the Ford system - elements in the lamination between the two layers of glass - it is just a heating element like you have in the rear screen. Putting that all over your windscreen would impair visibility.

the one next to blue fog light switch !!!

on my car that switch is the traction control off switch. and i think i must have a hot car spec.

my car was imported from japan as many others were. i would have been surprised if there were big enough differences it temp to warrant the different specs, but i surpose it doesn't stop must manufacturers offering, sports pack, winter pack, and lux pack on all there cars it doesn't matter where they are getting sold, just what the customer wants.

surpose i have just answered my own comment.

no heated mirrors :o

No. 37 on the list of why the v6 is better than a vr4 /Devil5

There are lots of V6 Galants here with the 'Winter Pack' fitted, I must find a breakers for Jap stuff then I may be able to raid a load of parts as the V6s with facelift bumpers and pre-facelift VR4 style ones are easy to come by here. With the lack of VR4 demand I reckon I can get the parts nice and cheap.

I suppose it can't be too difficult to wi in the extra two wires to get them coming on with the rear screen!

Oh, wait!! 'Ang on!! Sorry, forgot..../pan

The mirrors were always heated, however they were only electrically folding from 2001 across the board (though the 'later' V6 Sports from late 2000 also had them). The Pre-2000 cars didn't have them.:scholar:

whats the sensor that appears to be in the windscreen air vent

Photosensor for the aircon system - It allows the A/C to gauge how sunny it is and therefore how much radiant heat is likely to be entering the car.:scholar:
