Ok, I'm opening myself up for a slagging here but I am giving my RX8 back to the finance company so need to sell all the wheels I have accumulated (! (I have a fetish for tyres)). However, I was just wondering if these wheels would actually fit my VR4s?!?

I know I would be able to physically put them on but I don't understand offset and all that. They are 18s, currently with 225/45s on them. When put next to the standard VR4 wheels, the circumference is slightly more but nothing drastic I didn't think.

I checked a couple of the posts on ebay and noticed one guy had said they fit Galants. I picked up some specs while I was there:

Rim Width:
8J

Rim Diameter:
18 inches

Offset:
50

Number of Studs:
5

Stud Diameter:
114

Anyone got any ideas other than giving me the slagging I deserve but don't really want?!

Good find, thanks. Although what is bore?!

Bore is the hole in the centre of the wheel. The Galant is something like 67mm. If the bore is smaller, then it won't fit over the lip on your hub, but if it is bigger it may not be easy to centre on the hub.

Bigger is easier to solve than smaller, as you can machine a ring to fit the gap. Smaller means machining of the wheel - assuming the wheel can be machined.

50mm offset - you'll want to get 10-12mm spacers. They should be ok with the spacers.

I've got a mate with an rx7, what sort of wheels have you got, any photos

(also, what Bradc said, you would need spacers)

Right, I've had a look around this site and tyre calculators and I think I know the answer to the tyre size - they are too big by 3.45in circumference and diameter by 1.1 in. The tyres are 225/45/18s. They'll knock the speedo out by 4.42%, which equates to 57mph, in reality 60mph.

I can deal with that for the time being, so long as they fit okay, do you think I'll be okay? I was going to sell them, as one set have winter tyres on and the RX-8 is hell this time of year for going backwards into things but the guy doesn't like the look of them. They're ten spokes (aftermarket) and I have pics, any idea how to put them on the site so you can have a look?!

I also have standard RX-8 wheels (5 spokes), which are amazing looking. 2 of these need new tyres anyhow, so if they fit I might get 225/40/18s for these. As they have Mazda centre caps, I would like Mitsu, any idea if this can be done? (I think this element is waaaay down the list of things to do to be fair!!).

Centre caps depends on the fitment, I guess.

Thanks Nick, here are the ten spokes, the others are standard RX-8s, butI'll try and get pics and make some measurements for bore?

They look just like the ones DJDime has on his VR4. They're lovely on a VR4and if they were 17" I'd have been interested but the ride is solid enough as it is without adding 18s.

Not my thing either, I'd rather stay standard but needs must while the devil drives.

Entered a dual carriageway with a couple on full chat. Both times I pulled out a couple of car lengths up to the speed limit.

VR4 virtually all the time because if you're not over 7000 rpm in the RX at all times then you're leaving yourself wide open to get dominated by Civic Type Rs and well, everything really (including, embarrassingly, Jaguar X-Type diesels).

But if you want fun fun fun and not bothered about the cost, then the RX-8 (231 version) is amazing. Just remember to change gear, a lot (gearbox is sublime so you'll want to anyway).

thats half the point with rotaries, changing gear all the time anyway :)

Yes, half the folk on here have owned it it seems so they will know better, it has a Fujitsubo exhaust, whatever that does, other than look like a cannon and cost me an extra £85 p.a. in insurance. Great.

Pete, you forgot to mention make it makes an unbelieveably loud noise too. I still can't believe how much quieter the stock system is even without all that dynamat! Doesn't look as impressive though, I do miss that 3" tailpipe.

Oooooh yes, although it's not as bad as it could be. Can't wait to get the ghostbuster's wagon back on the road - quiet , subtle but still zooms.

Anyone any idea if these wheels will fit?!

According to the posts above they will fit with some spacers.

Nick Mann

Assuming the bore is okay!

Why not just try them?

unclepete
19-12-2007, 11:09 PM
They fit! Although I really need 225/40/18s on them instead of the current 225/45/18s.

Now all I need is to get it running... Pics in the new year, hopefully....!

RX8 rims should fit the VR4 fine, they go on Probes no problems and as Probe rims fit the VR4 I reckon they should fit fine.

Indeed they should, centre bore is 67.1, and I think IIRC the offset is 38mm.

Uncle P - what is the issue with the tyres, clearance? is your car lowered?

unclepete
16-01-2008, 11:32 AM
No, not lowered but I think using a tyre size calculator they're 29mm larger in diameter. If they don't rub I'm happy. I just want to use the winter tyres I had for the RX-8 up then I can change them to lower profile (40 instead of 45) rubber. I had tried to sell the winter tyres but even though everyone on the RX-8 forum was going backwards into shopfronts, they didn't see the point, as they didn't like the look of them! Obviously grip is less important.

There are a few numpties on there now unfortunately......... I get slated for using Toyo T1-R's on my 8.

I should think the VR will wear them out pretty quickly so they'd fit then/Devil5

unclepete
16-01-2008, 02:23 PM
And rightly so, after all the Potenzas RE040s are fantastic in hot, dry weather, which is exactly what we get year round. You should get slated for being different and buying tyres that grip.

My tyres aren't wearing out quickly at all!!! Shouldn't complain though. Saying that, the Toyos on my summer wheels wear fairly quickly.

Hadn't noticed that post and pic before, they look lovely and appeal to the polishing brigade for ease of cleaning ;)

When summer gets here I am definitely going shopping for some nice 17s.

 I have just taken these wheels of my 8 as I've sold them, I bought them for £12.50 each and then had them refinished in smoke chrome for £50 + vat each, so a very cheap set of wheels. They are a doddle to keep clean, 2 mins each.

Put them up agains't the leggy today.......Mmmmmm they did look nice, but I've just bought a set of Evo IX wheels from the MLR forum, 17" so cheaper tyres. I've just put brand new tyres on my stock wheels as well/pan /pan

I can see an eBay coming on for the stock ones.

Ritch, my tyres - dunno - I have two with about 4mm of tread left so I'd probably just give them away with the two decent tyres (around 5-6 mm of tread). £50 each? So £100 for 4.

They're on right now but not getting a lot of use. They're on ten spokes, which look great on the white Legnum. I need to get the stock RX-8 wheels lined up with some 225/40/18 Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, now that's sexual!!

hi

think we've got mixed up, not after tyres specifically - i thought you were selling the RX8 alloys, tyres arent massively important as i have an outlander and may need 45 or 50 profile tyres to keep the rolling radius right.

let me know if you are selling the rx8 alloys

unclepete
13-02-2008, 10:57 AM
Hi Ritch, sorry, I don't think I'll be selling the alloys. The tyres I have are 45 profile, that's the problem - could do with 40s really. There are always some available on ebay however, as the originals were susceptible to corroding so were replaced under warranty and many people then refurbed the old ones.

Nice But - what size are the centre caps? Where did you get different ones from? I haven't looked yet, apart from a wee gander at ebay, so I'm just being lazy!!
