I have been using Microsoft Money 2003 for the last ... well err 4 years I guess ... and I now want to get something newer as I am just doing a fresh install on my PC. Can anyone recommend anything? Is the latest version of Money OK? Is there anything else out there that does the job better?

MS Money 2005 currently for me, and perfectly happy with it. MS Money 2008 is out in the USA so I assume it will arrive here in due course.

Its a bit of a gap in the market at the moment - the curent version of Money in the UK is still 2005, while the US is riding the credit crunch with the vastly improved Money Plus  ... Quicken is dead so there ain't a lot else out there that isn't Online banking specific...

I still use Money - its crap.... every month it tells me I can't afford a VR4 /Grrr

In fairness though it does what it needs to for my circumstances

I had already seen Money Plus available for download on the Microsoft website .... $19.99 for the basic version ... but I was afraid it may be designed for US only ...

I was wondering if there may be something else out there ... but it sounds like there is not ...

There is a free demo of Money Plus ... maybe I will give it a try ...

Don't worry Bern the club funds are safely tucked away in a Swiss bank account :scholar:

Problem with downloading US versions of Money is you can't buy them in the UK after the trial period has passed. I used Money 2007 for three months but then found there was no way of paying for it to make it a licensed version in this country. By that time, of course, I had converted my files to 2007 format so had to go back three months to the old version and restart from there with the UK version - Money 2005. It's OK for what I need it for but I could cheerfully have strangled the Microsoft person who decided on that policy without telling anyone up front ... :veryangry

That's useful to know, thanks Brian. I installed the trial version on my laptop last night and started to have a play with it but after reading what you have said I will not be going any further with it!

Maybe I will have to "upgrade" to Money 2005 ...

Just to confirm, you can only "buy" 2008 if you live in the US or Puerto Rico......now uninstalling demo /Grrr

If you're on a Mac (sorry Wyne, this doesn't help you, unless Santa does you a favour  ) Debtinator (http://www.bassetsoftware.com/osx/debtinator/) is a useful tool for managing a budget, and optimising the timing of paying off debts - if you have any /pan

I stumbled across this a few weeks ago but haven't actually used it so can't comment on what it's actually like:

Mint (http://www.mint.com/) is getting great reviews - the money saving offers bit will be american, but otherwise fine to use in the UK

"Online money management made almost frighteningly easy, Mint allows users to add all their bank accounts, credit cards, stock trading accounts, and other financial information into a simple, clean view. Although some have raised concerns about the security of all this sensitive information, Mint’s model was impressive enough to garner the TechCrunch40 Top Company Award (and $50,000 seed money)."

Mint looks good, but I would be a tad worried about security, seeing as it's all online based.... Looks like a cracking product though.
