My old 2.0 GLSi Galant, at around 40 mph , my engine revs at 3000rpm constantly. At 70mph it goes beyond 4000.

Is this normal or cause for concern?

My 2.5 V6 car can do 70mph easily at around the 3000 mark which of course its a 2.5 and my GLSi is 2.0 but still a bit concerned with the GLSi as it never used to do 3000rpm at 40mph.

it all depends on gearing. there is a chance the transmission is slipping. is your old one an auto or manual?

v6 should do 80mph around 3000 revs???

depends whether it is auto or manual, but 3000rpm at 70-80mph is in the right ball park.

The GLSi is auto

The 2.5 V6 is also auto

does it feel like it is slipping at all? Any idea on what the gear ratio is in top gear?

Not sure on the slipping and gear but will check and find out
