Not looking to pay too much. I've been given a price to upgrade the turbos. Buying someone's unused turbos will mean I'll still be able to use my car until I decide to swap them over. Otherwise I'm looking at a week or probably more without a car.

How much to upgrade the turbos mate ? What to and what effect on power and can then car cope with it etc ?

Looking forward to hearing about this :)

Our turbo can be found on motorbikes (as posted on previous threads). Co in Texas has modified a lot of these turbos and has had an output of 260 HP from 1 turbo running at 22PSi. 1 bike engine will have a similar engine size to 3 of our cylinders so in theory 2 turbos should be able to provide enough airflow to double this figure (bike engines rev much higher than this so low 400's should be about right). My brief to him was that I wanted the turbos to hold boost at 20 PSi through the rev range. Price for upgrades & postage should be under £1000. Next day UPS postage should amount to about £200 of this so the rebuild/upgrade is relatively cheap. They can turn around the units in 2 days.

Sounds great but I guess it all comes back to the question about internals on our car - can they cope etc ? And do you anticipate any issues with detonation etc ?

Work done for the day. I'll answer your questions as best i can. I only had a short conversation with the guy, enough to think seriously about going ahead. The internals of the turbo are replaced with larger sizes. I was surprised that there would be space, but as he's done quite a few I wasn't going to argue. Most places hadn't even heard nor had ever worked on any of our turbos. The fins are clipped on 1 side & a 13 sized wheel used on other side. I assume that he means the compressor side is a 13G, similar to the factory GTO sport upgrade turbos. Can the car handle it? I believe that Calum isn't far off when he suggests that std internals should cope with 450 HP. I don't believe that the auto box in std form will cope, but with mine already slipping with my present mods I'm looking to strengthening the box. If i can't bulletproof the box then I won't go ahead with this. Detonation - Better IC, water inj., uprated fuel pump & injectors all re-mapped on the Unichip & I should be O.K. P.J suffered an air leak which could happen whether you've modified or not & Ftoltd was aware that he really needed larger injectors. Scouring E-bay & various forums has made this a lot cheaper than it could've been. TDi offer their turbo upgrade at £2800 + probably 10 hrs labour + VAT. All my mods including the box rebuild (unforeseen) shouldn't come to much more than this.

no offence mate but do you know how much these things are worth to replace, and once you had mine high flowed you would be able to sell yours.

Sorry mate couldnt go under 300 pound each ( they are like new and only done about 30000 miles, i will still hold on to them, these are in perfect condition and eventually i am sure they wil go to a good home.

P.S. Give mitsubishi a ring and ask them how much they are, but make sure your sitting down.

i think they should be worth atleast 500 quid for the pair

Car hire it is then. I didn't mean to offend but paying more in the hope of eventually selling mine, for the incovenience of being without the car for a week , doesn't warrant paying any more than this. £300 each is a good price to someone whose turbos need replacing but I was just looking to reduce the downtime on my car.

yea no problem mate I wasnt offended and hope i didnt offend you.

if they where in need of repair then i would let you have them at 200 quid

did you ring mitsubishi, i am curious the price in the UK, I know what they would cost if i had to buy them here.

will be very interested to see how they perform once you get them back

I didn't ring mitsi but the turbo rebuilders thought that I'd used the turbos in a custom installation & wondered why I'd used such expensive turbos. They were stunned once I'd told them they came with these from the factory. So I had an idea. I wasn't looking to make profit on the spare set & would have sold them for the same price that I'd bought them for. As yours had been laying around for a while I thought I'd ask. I wasn't aware that they were in A1 condition. If I had known I wouldn't have specifically asked about yours.

Is your rebuild complete yet?

Just cant get it to hold, to much torque, currently running a custom twin plate, just waiting on some specs on a couple of carbon triple plates, once the clutch is sorted will start on the new motor.

yea i was told they are 5000 AUD for the pair

Will post details tomorrow. Zentac, haven't seen any posts from yourself recently. How is your project coming on, should be near to finishing by now. You bought injectors from New Zealand through this forum a few months back, were you pleased with them?

Before searching the states for a company with previous experience with our turbos I did ring quite a few turbo specialists. All had never worked with them before. I didn't feel comfortable with sending my turbos to those without previous experience regardless of reputation. A company experienced with our turbos will know what does & doesn't work. With a s/h value of £500 to £600 for a pair I'm not prepared to be their guinea pig.

PJ, just seen their advert & wondered which upgrade did you go for (stage 1 0r 2) ? Were you given flow maps for pre & post upgrades ? Was the advertised price for 1 turbo or the pair ?

Details for Majestic Turbo.

Phone No incl intl code : 001 254 757 3759
Contact: Kevin

He's really helpful & seems to have a lot of knowledge on this particular turbo. Once my g'box is done ( hopefully 2-3 weeks from now ) I'll be sending mine. Then fit new fuel pump, injectors, intercooler & turbos replacing plugs & t.belt at same time & back to Owen Developments for re-map of unichip. Need to check with them that they will be able to map it with so many mods added in one go. The car might have to be transported there as it might not run with the changes to the fueling.

what injectors are you using

borgan
28-02-2004, 02:26 PM
Going to be using 460cc injectors. Should be good for just under 470 hp at 85% duty cycle; more than enough for me. Feb good month for me so may take you up on those turbos if they're still for sale. Supplier of g'box mods still waiting for 1 clutch to be supplied to him so haven't started got that installed yet.

On another note, have you tried Pros Engineering in Japan for your clutch. They might be able to help but they are pricey. http://www.diana.dti.ne.jp/~carplus/mitsubishi/ec5.html & use Alta Vista Babelfish to translate.

yes still got the Turbos email me on FTOLTD@hotmail.com and we can make arangements.

I am in the process of fitting 56lb injectors to mine, they are 10mm longer so i am getting a custom made fuel rail made as well, the injectors had the flow checked and flowed at 960cc at 90psi. I can get you these too if you want.
