Please indicate what you want done to your car, or if you'll be attending just to watch. There is more stuff in the shed now so we'll only be able to get in 3 cars, but thats still plenty. I've got millions of sockets, cresents, air compressor, battery charger, angle grinder, 2 axle stands, big engine hoist thingee

There'll be a bbq afterwards, so if you want anything special, bring a plate :)

And the list of things to be done, I'll update as people post:

Brad: Purple VR-4 rear diff oil change, gearbox oil change, Blue ST-R brake change, calipers, rotors, pads

David: - probably turn up to help, might bring a rattle gun

Sam: - won't be coming, but Det might steal his car and come down to fit the EBC

Ryan: - ayc fluid change

Logan: - change brakes just like on my ST-R

Matt: - replace engine mounts, bringing along trolley jack and axle stands

I need a bonnet and front bumper to get the car registered again... Carsten, when you putting your evo style bumper on? :P

bradc

Yep, i've got an engine crane thingee that will pick up the front end of a Legnum no problems :)

We could probably put ropes through the rear doors and lift an entire car up with it, the doors may not like it though :D

DefeXion
14-01-2008, 10:12 AM
haha, I would try, but I wouldn't want the car to drop if the rope broke *excuse*.

Have you got plenty of axle stands? I mayaswell just bring whatever I need and then sort the rest out there.

No I can't, I only have the cable that doesn't reflash, The VR4 doesn't hold the changes anyway from what people say.

DefeXion

I have the cable that you can reprogram with (i think) if you want to use it.

Yup, will do. It was running linux, but I have loaded Windows back onto it so that I can run my car stuff (evoscan and caps) on it again.
As for knock at 91/95, I haven't tried. I always run BP98.

DefeXion

My alternator died on me the other night, actually the whole car died as i tried to get home had all the lights going on the dash and was showing no revs on the tacho untill it finally gave up. Anyway i'll still be able to make it providing i get a replacement in time, hopefully tonight. I'm just going to put a 2nd hand one in and if that one gives up too i'll get 1 of them reco'd.

brad - ill bring some stuff for the BBQ

Kenneth
04-02-2008, 07:30 AM
well, there is a possibility (if it passes re-registration inspection) that ill have the Galant :pimp2:

had a little drive of it today (on a very short private road at least) and it all seemed to work ok. Only issues seems to be that I did something wrong with the alarm wiring and have the lock/unlock around the wrong way. (it unlocks when alarming)

gearbox seems to work well... yet to get a good 5th gear run though so cant say what thats like

bradc
04-02-2008, 07:54 AM
Cool :) Your new 5th gear should have you at about 120kmh at 3000rpm rather than about 110kmh.

Don, that'll be awesome mate, I don't want you to bring masses of food though, you know what it is like, everyone will bring enough for them and 5 other people and we won't get half of it on the bbq (unless you're bringing salads haha) I'd prefer it if everyone brings something, but a smaller amount.

Matt - pity it isn't just playing up and you could do it at the workshop day! Would be nice to meet you.

Ohh and someone that lives North of me, perhaps it is time to organise a bit of a convoy type thing from Greenlane or Botany?

Sorry guy's, I have to pull out of this one, my instructor has teed up a lesson with Blyth Tait, NZ Eventing dual gold medalist and manager of the NZ Equestrian team for the Olympics so I will be show jumping and cross country schooling with my horse this weekend.

I will see if I can pop over after I am done, I should be home around 12:30 on Sunday so I will possibly come and say hello.

replaced alternator today, no worries. So i'll be there brad. Only thing i noticed was the alternator i got was slightly bigger and was rated at 120 amps, my one was only 100 amps. Do i need to replace the 100 A fuse in my engine bay for a 120 A one?

bradc
05-02-2008, 09:38 AM
the 120a one is probably from a cold weather car. Dunno if replacing the fuse is really that important

matt25649
05-02-2008, 09:42 AM
Thats what i suspect too, would be nice to know though if someone who has a cold weather car has a 120A fuse in there engine bay or 100A. Also at the workshop day i wont be replacing is the rear engine mount although i havnt replaced any mounts on the galant yet when i inspected them all the rear one looked like it would take the most time, but that one still is in good nick. Also whilst under the car today noticed the inner cv boot was split and some of the grease had made its way onto the alternator, might have caused it some grief

Galant failed on a couple of things and I don't have time to sort them.

Main issue I think is a seized caliper. Not sure which one is seized but the report will tell me.

Apparently requires repair cert (for what repairs is what I will ask when I get there :P)
Seized brake caliper
Brake pad thickness on one pad
Incorrect wheel nuts (wtf?)

Anyway, apart from the repair cert which I will chat to the dude about, it shouldn't be too hard to get it all fixed

Ryan
07-02-2008, 10:22 PM
Incorrect wheel nuts is bizarre? LoL

Seized caliper? I believe mine had that problem too on the left front, no wonder car pulled to left and shuddered under braking. MMC serviced it and lubed it and now operating fine.

Yeah, ill probably pull the caliper apart and see if i can un-seize it. as far as the wheel nuts go... wtf... ill probably just swap wheels with the legnum :P

*cough* old man is a repair certifier *cough...he said that it does need one as fire damages the structure ie weakens the structure so it is worse then a water damaged car. when you go to the insurance company they will say that it wasnt damaged in a acciedent but by fire and that puts it into the same catagory as water damaged car, and will have to be cleared by ltnz in welly.

ill drop you a pm now

The fire was 100% external and only damaged paint work, seals and the glass... the fact there is no internal damage is a good indication that the heat didn't penetrate below the skin. (otherwise I wouldn't have bought the car in the first place)

But I suppose it does depend on what the insurance company says. Will see I guess

Well, it didn't really get a good start:

I loosened the sump plug to drain some of the oil so I could add some engine flush. I in turn loosened it too much and tried in vain to screw it back in (it was stupidly hot).

I then watched my 5200km old 5W30 drain out with some satisfaction, knowing that I had a consignment of 0W30 just waiting for it. I was really looking forward to putting it in.

I somehow became distracted and then when I eventually returned to my car, started adding the 0W30 - had bent down to pick up the 3rd 946ml container when I noticed a solid golden stream pouring out the bottom of the engine!!!

Yes, yours truly had forgotten to put the F**king plug back in! I stood clutching my half empty container and watched helplessly as it continued to pour out... "what are the guys going to say?"

"Can i cover this up somehow?"

No! I had no more oil! How was I going to get home? It was 3 days camel ride to the nearest shop and I couldn't drive now! :P

Luckily Richard (KiwiTT) saved the day with a 4L bottle of 5W50 Mobil1 (thanks again)

The most expensive engine flush I've ever done.

Basically they can happen any time, and this one wasn't terribly well planned, we should probably organise one around end of April, start of May, how many people are keen for that?
