Hi mate, I tried sending you a pm and an email, can't do either so thought I'd post it.
I've just got a set of evo 6 brembos for my car and now need a new set of alloys so I can actually put them on! /Grrr I have seen some Enkei evo 8 17x8 alloys with 235/45/17 tyres on, I also noticed you (BraindG) have/had the same, did yours fit fine, any rubbing? Is your car lowered? Did you have to roll the arches?
Or has anyone else used/got these and can share their experience?

Hope you don't mind me asking.

Thanks,

Jason.

I haven't had rubbing issues with EVO 8 wheels on my standard height Legnum, but on my VR-4 which was lowered by about 50mm or so I had rubbing issues on the back which were fixed by rolling the guards.

You'll find 99% of people report the exact same thing with EVO wheels

Ah, drat, well I can't roll then as I have flared arches.......

I need a set of alloys, 17" so they will fit over brembos and wont require modding to arches on a lowered galant.

Any recommendations?

Where do your tyres sit on your guards on the front with the 235/45's Brad? I Had rubbing issues(on the rear arm) on the back with 235's but that may have been an alighnment issues...

My guards on my VR-4 have been rolled and I have flared arches. Lots of other people have had them rolled with the arches as well.

As for your problem John, probably a combination of offset and tyre width.

use a 225 tyre instead and they wont rub

you can still role the facelift arches even with flairs, just have to be more careful.

Some 235s don't rub, some do. It depends on the contour of the tyre wall. I'd stick them on and try them. If you are very scared, then do as Gly says and swap the tyres for 225s. That will solve it.

I have the same alloys on my car and that is dropped by 70mm , not had any issues with rubbing with 235 . But i do have coilovers that are slightly stiffer than most others .

Just suck it and see , whatsd the worst that can happen

I have had these wheels on for two years with Goodyears,Falkens, Michelin, and Bridgestones, and no issues at all and I am lowered as much as I can go (bout 2cm wheel arch clearance all round), Never had any problems. There are some pics in my CVR4 cars gallery if you fancy a look, cheers Louis

Thanks guys, well that's convinced me, I have seen a few without tyres, I could get them and just put on 225 eagle F1's... I'll get them then.

Was it you I was bidding against last night on flea bay ?
Congratulations if so, not so bad losing out to a vr4 pilot !!

I have had minor rubbage with Falkens on Evo 7 wheels. (Same offset and rim width). Only twice during approx 15000 miles. I have been in a legnum that had rubbage with Goodyear F1 GS-D3s when it was properly loaded.

I'd say 235s have a chance of rubbing when the car is well loaded, but less so during normal use. The worst of the rubbing was still only a slight graze - not enough to wear the writing on the sidewall.

Yes, I believe so, both sets ended around 22:30pm. My brakes are horrendously bad at the moment, there is some not very good noises coming from there! But I refused to buy normal brakes, I had to upgrade so I decided whatever it took I had to have them. Sorry. To be honest I've seen plenty better and I think I paid too much but hey-ho.

Just noticed.... your first post! I'm privileged! Welcome to the club and a full member at that! Well done!

Is a good place to find Evo wheels. Regularly £400-500 for as new wheels with as new rubber. Often only £200-300 with no rubber, and less if they need refurbing.

That's where these pics come from, I've been speaking to a couple of guys on there, he wants £295 for them, just waiting for a second gy to send me pics, he wants £200 without tyres, £240 with.

Nick Mann

The second guy to which you refer, they would be from manx evo 8 or something? He's been advertising those for ages, I'm sure.... Must be worth a cheeky punt!

Norris designs are selling a set of Evo 9 wheels with Bridgestones that are only 200 miles old for £500. Bobby bargain!

That's the guy, he's emailed me and said he's gonna send me some pics.

I went to that Norris Designs site, I can't see any wheels, you got a link at all?

Nick Mann

Norris posts on the MLR. He is breaking an Evo 9 with 200 miles on the clock - I imagine for one of his daft projects! The wheels are one of the things advertised. I'll see if I can find the thread for you....

JJ how did you get on in your quest?......... I'm thinking of going down the Evo 8 enkie route.

Just need something bigger than the stocks, i'll keep those for winter/track wheels, have them refurbed in brake dust colour :inquisiti .

Candee..... i will go with the 225 size, but the set I'm looking at, have brand new235/45 R17's on them. So if I get them I will whack them on and see if they rub. if not I'll trash them and replace with the 225's.

Cheers anyway bud.

Lol, I was gonna say I enquired about some wheels yesterday, and was just waiting for a pm back, They were also £275 and that picture looked awfully familliar! lol http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=187229

You snooze you loose!

I'm in no huge rush at the moment, I have my Brembos but they still need alot of work, so until that is done I don't need them, Trying to find someone in the london area that does disk skimming is a mission, they keep chuckeling and saying buy new ones. Plus I'm going on holiday intwo weeks so need to be saving money for that really!

Congrats on the purchase though.

JJ oops sorry Bud...... I'm waiting for him to send me some photo's of the other 3....... if they look like that one then they should be ok. The tyres are crap Sumo's so I will probably eBay those and whack some Falkens on.

I may have them refinished in a brighter silver if they need it, have to wait and see. There are a fair few on there though, couldn't believe it, the Norris wheels would be nice, just can't warrant £500 notes ATM.

Have you got some facelift legs for the Brembo's then, I,m not jealous  at all....... I want some/pan .

Nope - he's got a facelift car!

£500 notes is a good deal, for brand new decent tyres. (Bridgestones, IIRC?)

Lets say you sell your dodgy tyres for £100. Then buy Falkens for £240. Then fit them for £30. Not unrealistic figures? You are looking at around £450 if I have my maths right. Norris's wheels are only 200 miles old, so should be in better condition and with tyres that should be better than the Falkens. Got to be worth an extra £50....

Of course your right Nick, it was late last night without doing sums etc..... I'll wait and see what the pictures are like of the other 3. I like the E8 wheels and if I'm spending that much I've had a quote of £650 from my local alloy seller for some Inovite 8 spokes with tyres.........

A difficult decision. If the E8 piccy's look ok as we are moving towards better weather maybe I would wear out the Sumo tyres then refurbwheels/replace tyres as required.

Do the stock wheels sell on flea bay? As I may get shot of them and they have brand new tyres as well.....

Seems I may have sold the RX8 so the mods will begin

Nick Mann
05-02-2008, 10:39 PM
Heh! Too good a bargain! Mr. Norris realised.....

You can buy the standard Evo 8 and 9 wheels as nearly new from the MLR for £80 each. No tyres, but still not bad. As I understand it, some UK Evos are supplied with different wheels, so the wheels for sale on the MLR were only used from the factory to the boat, then from the boat to the dealer.

The standard VR4 wheels don't seem to attract much attention. I guess they are too small and too plain for people to want them. Especially as the cars they will fit are mostly cars that come with at least that size of wheel anyway.

jayjay99
06-02-2008, 10:38 AM
Yeah, as Nick says I have the facelift so am lucky there, all I need now is alloys, front brake pads, probably going for carbotech XP8 for £120, and refurb the calipers and then I'm sorted! As you say there is plenty in there I have seen at least 5 sets since I started looking.

Saw these on the MLR and thought they are similar..... called the guy up, as you say £200 notes with 2 good tyres is a result and he's passing the jcn on the M42 on monday as well, no major collection trip...... now when I kerb one /pan I could get them done in Bronze....

Ian, they defo make it look faster /rally the car looks awesome, they fill the arches perfectly, mind you the fronts stick out past the wheel arch a bit..... does anyone elses? It doesn't bother me as the car looks so much better than with the stock wheels...... no lowering for me though ATM as it's running 235's, when they wear out then 225's will be on, then lowered.

Photo's next week as I'm away doing my yachtmaster exam until next friday....:scholar:
