Interesting article for you all to read and discuss.

All seems perfectly logical to me. You would have to be losing a lot of power/torque at the top end of the revs to mean that shifting before the red line is advantageous.

Yep, I figured that all out a while ago, basically you want to have the max amount of torque output to the wheels at all times, and the spacing between the gears in a VR-4 means that shifting at about 6500-7000rpm is the best.

yep what he said

it's all stuff that makes perfect sense and you just know or have already figured out by driving your car, but now I know the physics behind shifting points and how to calculate it with data. Ta Zentac.

My torque picks at at 3500 -> 4000
It drops off at 6500 but I rev 500 rpm into redline to get the rpm as close to 4 as I can in the next gear.

It works well. Any windy track and I'm sure I'd have a chance of smacking down some of you VR4's. Especially with some drift action :P.

Anyone up for an evoscan day? Bring a calculator.

Logan, I make more power at 3000rpm than you do at anypoint in the rpm range :) The issue you have really is having only 4 widely spaced gears. If you had a 5 speed tip box it would be a lot quicker.

In a Spacker Manual..
If i'm caning it then i don't lift off accelerator between gearchanges for the very reason of losing the torque between gearchanges. Each vehicle has a different point to change up, so as not to hit rev limiter. but as a rule its approx 300rpm off the redline.. :)

neither, flat shifting works well :)

yeah, flat shifting is good. I lift off just to make it sound manual :P
