View Full Version : How did you lose your centre bumper insert

Most VR-4s and Vientos I see around have lost their front bumper insert. Just wondering what you hit to lose it?

I still have an insert on my '99, though admittedly it is not the original one, because after a headon crash in 2006 with a Toyota Camry, the car got a new nose cut, but it had an intact bumper insert before the crash also.

Still have mine :P
But the under side of it was blue, so its a replacement.

I'm going to bog it in as one piece.

haven't lost one yet in 4+ years and over 100000km of Legnum driving :)

Always had mine but you certainly do see a lot in NZ without theirs!

According to mitsu's CAPS application this thing is called a 'Tow Hook Cover'. I had no idea how to describe it before I found it, as I am looking for one for my new '98 Legnum that is also missing it.

Anyone knows a good -online- place to buy these?
(I live in Holland, no VR4/Legnums nor their bumperkits available here...)

I don't think there is anyone who sells them online Mark. Perhaps you could get someone like Mo (Zedy1) from Galant Spares to send you one over (if he has one) or perhaps one of the NZ guys could help?

Also www.JapanParts.com do them - but check the exchange rate etc first as it maybe cheaper getting them from your local dealer.

Thanks guys, a couple of days ago I entered several requests on NZ (mitsu) wrecker/parts websites, but so far none has em available, so I think I'll go to the local Mitsu dealer and try to order one (this will be expensive I think... def not an available part throughout europe I think...).

Ours was absoloutely fine, and orginal, when I bought the car....it was one of the reasons I bought it.
Then I got it MOT'd and the *******s broke it off on the ramp!
Got it back, but the plastic clips are all bent / broken. NOT pleased.

I've read somehere on here - or somewhere - that they are around £30 GBP in the UK... Best bit is they come colour coded as standard!

Highly recommend them! Got my VR4 twin-fogs from there for my Elegance - hassle free... excellent communication... emails giving you parcel tracking online! Pleasure to deal with!

And they were genuine boxed Mitsubishi parts!

Opps - sounding like an ebay feeback rating! /pan

They are fab at JapanParts though !:afro:

I pulled my one off a few weeks back when I parked to close to the gutter at the supermarket. When I reversed the lip caught on the gutter and pulled the damn cover off. Made a hell of a noise (the sort that makes you cringe) so I got out and picked it up. The clips were shot and the plastic holes were both ripped, I have screwed it back on with some self tappers, just in case I ever need to tow it anywhere.

Aye! Brass wood screws holding mine on! /pan

I haven't lost one yet, but the one on this car was a tad loose when I got it.

Screwed mine in... works a charm ;)

As you can see in my gallery pics, the car arrived in a bit of a dishevelled state. After I colour-coded the Super, we made sure the tow-hook cover wasn't going anywhere!

Mine was nearly a high curb victim, but noticed it just about hanging on when I got home.

So, it being held on with some lovely rust free screws....

I got my legnum back from the rolling road...

The girlfriend was behind me (hey hey) and I had to give it a blast..

Reached a long 2 mile straight and floored it overtaking 2 or 3 cars...

Yeah, was great... very quick.... but i heard a thunk when i dropped it to 2nd gear and looked in my mirror to see the insert mid flight....

:(

However, I passed it the next day and it was still in one piece :)

Woohoo

My vr4 came with one it lasted about four months, I lets my friend drive two new years ago when doing a road trip so I could have a sleep.
She hit a possum and that was the end of that!!

But got my panel beater to make a new one and it is all one piece now so ill never loose it again!!

Still have the original - just now held on with cable ties. As is the rest of the bumper!! Local garage asked me if I used it for drifting (/lol) as this is apparently a trick used by drifters in case they nudge the front bumper, and it causes less damage, as the cable ties give out instead of anything else!

Anyway, there's enough give in the bumper to not have to take the cover off if requiring to tow it - although we all know towing is generally a no-no on the VR-4 anyway!

Thread from the dead resurrection alert!

Well mines gone now. Dad borrowed it and decided to drive at high speed towards a pheasant with predictable results....
