Anyone remember wonderful Galant Sapporro of 1987...?! Based on the 5th generation Galant...? I nearly bought one before settling on my last 8g Galant.

We're looking around for a replacement for the Golf - But that's just TOO nice (and to expensive!) to subject to the daily commute! What a lovely example though!

Kieran - would a V6 Galant suffice?

The seller said he was selling his classics to fund a house project, so I had a look through his other items. That wee old Toyota Publica you can see in the third photo from the end has also been shifted:

Kieran, Auto Trader's website is now a lot more flexible than it used to be. I have a user login which might be making a difference, but I can search the site filtering by fuel type, mileage, price and distance from postcode without specifying a particular make or model. So for example, you can look for all diesels with under 80k on the clock, less than £1,000 and within 100 miles of your house.

G

Unfortunately not. Far too expensive in all respects! Our 'workhorse' car has to be a case study in Bangernomics!

G- That's handy, thanks!! So then, Diesels, any age, any mileage, under £500.... Let's see what shed-tastic bargains there are to be had out there!:inquisiti

They try to ruff up a 240 GLT...?! Are these people to young to remember what tank-like build qualities these cars came with before the accountants got involved and slashed the budget..?!

is the Sapporo the same as a sigma?

Almost - depending on the era.

The Sapporo (in its early days, like the car up on eBay) was a sports car, in the league of an FTO / GTO today... Back then if you didn't want a Galant (or at the time in the UK it was billed as a Sigma in the UK) then you got a Sapporro...

When Mitsubishi launched the Galant-Sapporo in 1987 in the UK (with the 2.4 engine) it was a bridge between the 5th gen Galant and the larger 3.0 Sigma saloon (Japan built) and Sigma estate (Australian built)... The Galant-Sapporo had a few gizmos than the 5th gen Galant... I've got the sales book somewhere for it at home.

The line line up in the 70s / early 80s went Colt > Lancer > Sapporo > Sigma (Galants were badged Sigma in the UK at the time)

After this old classic recently from the 70s - to this bliss one from the 80s based on the 5th generation Galant...

What a lovely car - and didn't realise that many, 600-odd were sold!

I remember I always wanted one of these - over the top of the range 5th Galant at the time, but the 6th generation hatch won me over!

I like the external styling and the seats are nice too, but that steering wheel and dash are terrible!

I note that he has a demand on the auction stating that the car must not be banger raced or scrapped, or it won't be sold. Erm, how exactly do you follow that up? Once it's sold, it's not his!

I can see his point, but it's up to the new owner what they do with the car!

If that 6G Galant falls through...........:inquisiti

Well, I might be tempted....:scholar:

Yeah, far better looking than the 5th generation Galant it was based on...

And that steering wheel and controls - the sales brouchure of the 5th gen Galant at the time said the design was the way of the future placing all the most common buttons and switches around the steering wheel, hense that virtually see-through wheel. Looks like the future is yet to happen! :inquisiti
