Just wondering what brand and model tyres came on the VR-4 as original equipment? And did different brands come with cars sold new in different countries - eg. what were they in Japan, the UK and NZ?

Thats a damned good question, don't know how many people will be able to answer it though!

Maybe Yokohama come to think of it. My VR-4 had about 50,000 Kms on the clock when I got it as a fresh Japanese import and there were Yokohama S-drives on it. Of course they could have put anything on it during NZ compliance.

I bought a UK from new VR4 with 18,000 miles on it. The tyres were BF Goodrich Profilers, but I am sure they weren't the first set of tyres on there. I have no idea if the previous owner changed them like for like - I know many people like to keep the same tyres on as supplied by the man'f.

Having said that, the UK cars were JDM from the production line, so it is perfectly possible that they had a Japanese spec Yokohama on there or something.

OE were Bridgestone Potenzas - Thats what the brochures show. Not sure without looking what the exact model was.

Mine had Yokohama's on with 28k miles so would have been changed but may have been replaced with the same :speechles

Having had a look, most of the brochures I have show Bridgestone Potenzas in the photographs, but I can't read the model. The exception to this is the Super VR-4, where the tyre model was upgraded to Potenza RE710 kai tyres.

Bridgestones ehh!

I remember reading that the Honda S2000 needed to have a specific Bridgestone tyre when it first came out.

I wonder if they tested and setup the VR-4 with a specific tyre in mind. Each tyre design handles differently, but this could be soemthing to think about.

However, I am still happy with the F1's.

even if they had done that Richard, they would have done all the testing in 1995 or 1996, virtually all performance tyres now would be better than the ones back then.
