Right folks, im in a pickle. my PC has just spat its dummy out. im getting the STOP BSoD and text as follows

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

etc etc etc

Technical info

*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203,0x82FA7070,0x0000102,0x00000000)

I have tried everything possible from the safe mode ie start in safe mode, resetting to earlier safe mode etc. Its telling me to run CHKDSK /F but i cant get anywhere near this even in safe mode.

Im on the laptop at the moment. i need the PC working as i run a small buisness from home. I know there are a few technical guys out there who may know how to rectify this? Or is it an unplug and hand it over to a shop job and pray i get all my info back?

Cheers

Does the PC boot?

Nutter_John
06-02-2008, 10:11 PM
boot off your xp install disk and you can boot the system into safe mode via that , then run chkdsk on the disk

Another option is to get hold of UBD and runs some of the tools from there ( Ultimate boot disk )

miller

its not letting me boot the XP cd-rom either, just saying device not available.

I presume a shop will have UBD and sorth this in a matter of secs? i havent access to any other method of boot?

This is where I'd start. Someone is bound to have had it before.

Unusual that you're not getting more than a code - no message to accompany it? (such as "SOME_SMELLY_ERROR 0 x 00000000000)

no it just says

***STOP: 0x000000024 blah blah bloody blah

ive been on tec tips and they keep stating the Run CHKDSK /F...i only wish i could get as far as inputting that!

other option requires floppy disk which i dont possess, can i write the same info to a cd and will it read that?

I think so - you could create a bootable CD, and use that as a startup disc.

Nutter_John
06-02-2008, 10:31 PM
turn the system off and leave it off for a few minutes

turn the system on and go into the bios ( f2 or del )

Now can you see all the devices you expect to be there , memory , correct cpu , number of disks , cd/dvd drive

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ is the site to download the cd from , don't worry about not knowing your admin passwd you don't need it with that

if need talking thru it , let me know and i can talk you thru it step by step over the phone if needed

You running XP / 2000...? If so you can go into a diagnositic self repair or auoto repair... I think it is hitting F7 or F8 or F5... Infact thinking of it, it may ven be on the Safe Mode option - there'll be a diagnostic start up option for the PC to self repair itself

its a software issue on them, are you lot using mau? the amount of software bugs that causes is incredable, i got so annoyed with mine one day i thrashed it with a copy of the star, i spent over an hour hunting for the 'k,t & x' keys that had dispersed themselves around the cab /Grrr

An alternative to UBD is Hieren's Boot Disk that I use every day. I'm guessing the problem may be that your BIOS isn't set to boot from CD first. What make is the PC? If it's no particular make do you know what processor you have and does it give you any info on boot-up to determine who makes the motherboard?

Nutter_John

i get a few of these errors.. try taking out one of the sticks of ram, and just leave one in there... if u got 2. try again booting with xp cd. if u got 1 stick of ram, try to get hold of another stick of ram, or else if that fails... try changing either of the sticks to a new bank. (slot)
