It's a 2002 2.0 galant sport estate. UK cars called galant estate. If it were an import it would be legnum

I'm pretty certain that is indeed normal - I have only ever seen facelift tails on the Legnum imports. There is a 2001 estate around here that has the 'pre-facelift' tail - and the car looks totally standard too.

That's correct. Mitsubishi never Type-Approved the facelift tailgate. Whilst I don't know the reason, I would hazard a guess that the Angle of the taillamps (they are pointed on the facelift) would not pass EU pedestrian protection regulations - That's why you don't see new cars with pop-up headlamps these days - sharp corners have high evisceration potential!

As for the 'Official' VR-4s - well, they just got a UK SVA. Cars get SVAs on import and/or manufacture if they don't have type approval and are part of a limited production/import run. That's how cottage car builders like Quantum, Morgan and such have survived the years. Full type approval would be horrendously expensive, but SVAs aren't.

as tempting as it would be to run down pedestrians with the headlights up in the BMW to slash them to pieces to say a big fvck you to the government, I think I'll still try and avoid them.
