Exactly the same including MTU!!..Beginning to wonder if it's some underhand way AOL have found your most popular site and are now forcing you to use their browser, complete with ads etc!/pan

Are you still having problems from home Andy?

I did make the observation yesterday that you and Nick are both using AOL as your ISP. Could be related.

The site apparently went down for 30 minutes or so last night. This may have coincided with when I was doing the weekly partial backup of the site but it does not normally cause a problem. I will check the times on the files tonight to see if they tie up.

Well thats weird

I did a few ping tests using different MTU sizes and sussed out 1368 is about the highest I can set

So set MTU at 1368 using DRTCP rebooted and tried again the same :speechles

Just opened up IE have multiply tabs and another site that would'nt open just opened ok

So I have no idea wtf is going on now surly setting up MTU should work straight away

Nick/Andy,

When you cannot access the site, can you ping it? Nick I know you know how to do this but for Andy's benefit (assuming you are using WinXP):

1. Click Start
2. Click Run...
3. In the Run box, type "cmd" and hit [ENTER]. A black command prompt window will appear.
4. Type "ping www.clubvr4.com" and hit [ENTER]. You should see something like this:
U:\>ping www.clubvr4.com

Pinging clubvr4.com [209.85.50.6] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 209.85.50.6: bytes=32 time=111ms TTL=51
Reply from 209.85.50.6: bytes=32 time=108ms TTL=51
Reply from 209.85.50.6: bytes=32 time=109ms TTL=51
Reply from 209.85.50.6: bytes=32 time=108ms TTL=49

Ping statistics for 209.85.50.6:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 108ms, Maximum = 111ms, Average = 109ms

If you cannot ping the site and you get something like this:

Ping request could not find host www.clubvr4.com. Please check the name and try again.

then it would suggest that you have got a DNS problem .... we can try tackling this if it transpires to be the problem.

I did do a visual trace using McAfee Security Center yesterday and got no such url
Which is odd a AOL browser was fine

Then did a ping through cmd and got could not find either yesterday and today

Seems fine now on FF and IE will keep a eye out

I had that last night - a quick refresh cured it... Glad we're all back on line!

My investigations suggest that last night's downtime was possibly caused by the backup of the main SQL database that stores all the threads and posts .... more on that later though as I have to go out now.

Strange, but it's now back on IE7. Still have a hunch it's something to do with aol.
