I spent a month in Vietnam a while back, after landing in Hanoi i spent the first day sitting at roadside cafe's and restaurants AMAZED at the driving and how few accidents there are.
Next day i parted with 2 dollars and got me a Honda 50 for two days, it was the most nerve wracking thing setting off at first (dont have a bike license)

but in the end it was a massive andrenaline jump scooting around the city. the law seems to be you beep to let the person in front know your there, if you hesitate then thats when the chaos ensues. You gotta just go for it.

Its worse crossing the roads as a pedestrian. My trick was to wait until a local crossed the stick closely on their heels!!!

I would recommend it to anyone who ever goes....dont be horrified...join in!

Yup - Vietnam sure is crazy!!!

If you ever catch a minibus taxi in South Africa you'll be surprised too! I used to catch one from Pretoria to Johannesburg when i had a weekend pass which cost me (at the time) R12 which is less than 1 GBP to do 40km / 25 miles

The scary thing was the sliding door was held on with the pull handles from a plastic shopping bag, the steering wheel had been replaced with a vice-grip to fit in an extra passenger and to top it all off there was a massive difference between the front and rear axles - effectively going down the highway diagonally! LOL
