Just had a call from Nobles about my car, & they said they were 3/4 of the way through re-mapping it , when they discovered a misfire. [ the one I get occasionaly, that the dealer couldn't find ?? ]
further inspection found a duff plug, & an oil leak. So it's a new set of plugs on order, & new rocker gaskets also.
There's no point it not having it done now, whilst it's in bits. but the chances of getting it back for sunday are not good. :(
I'll find out late saturday, whether they will finish it or not. DOH !!!

Bad news, sorry to hear it. I know how you feel 'cos I've missed every meet so far thru' problems.

Just make sure they get the right plugs - they changed mine and then had to do it again to reduce the spark gap because it made the misfire worse.

Real bummer if the north contingent don't make it!! We need the safety in numbers! Get down there and sort 'em out Dave.

On the plus side, less bacon & eggs to cook. :$

Don't worry! The integrity of the Mighty GLS will prevail, and the Northern contingent will (eventually) make it! :-D

Sorry to hear about your car Derek, but I guess it proves that Nobles know what they're on about! Bit worrying that a Mitsubishi Dealer couldn't diagnose a fubared spark plug though... :shifty:

Noble are fantastic at fault finding/fixing, not the cheapest but definately the best.... :-D

I'm saving up to get mine done as well!! :greedy:

just been to noble's to take a look at my car !! :stunned: :Eek1:
looking rather forlorn, parked up in the corner, engine stripped to the bones, bonnet vents have not stuck properly, :(
might be weds at the earliest now !! but, if there is any good news to come from !! It's the fact that I reckon it's had a full service over the past couple of months ??? gearbox leak, new oil. engine flush last month & new filter, & now the top end overhauled !! new plugs etc. and a full tune up as well !!
I suppose in a way, It might not need servicing for a while now ???
just coming up to 53K now. do you think I should let them fit a new cambelt whilst they are at it ??

enigma
14-02-2004, 03:30 PM
If the top end is in bits you should definately do the cambelt!

Got mine back today!! :p

Nick VR4
14-02-2004, 03:35 PM
Yeap get the cam belt done now mate will be cheaper in the long run :)

SGHOM
14-02-2004, 04:01 PM
around £175 for them to fit a new cam belt whilst its in bits ??? does that sound about right ??? I've said go ahead & do it !! :$

enigma
14-02-2004, 04:03 PM
Cheaper than letting the dealer do it! And at least you will know it is done!! ;)

Yep well worth the money - can double that from a dealer

Kieran
14-02-2004, 06:03 PM
:D £175 is less than Variava's want for doing the Cambelt on the 4G63 within my GLS! That's a steal!!! :Eyecrazy:

Derek - reading the above, especially your comments about it having had a service over the last 2 months with all the odd jobs... :undecided You do keep to your 4,500 service intervals, don't you? :uhoh2:

SGHOM
14-02-2004, 06:51 PM
do I f**K !!! It had 47K on when I bought it !! so in theory its due. but as I said, It's had more than it's fair share of "servicing" over the last 3 months.
So, I think after getting Nobles to do there bit, including cam belt, I think..... or should I say, hope I'm OK for the next 4.5 K ???

Any news ?

SGHOM
17-02-2004, 06:38 PM
Any news ?
yes !!! the cam belt is £72 + 5 hrs labour to fit !! so looking at around £240 + vat . then theres the new plugs @ £20 apiece. + the rocker gasket + labour !!! Add that to the ATF cooler + fitting, & the unichip, re-mapping, dyno etc !!
I dont think I'm going to get much change out of £1500 !! :$ :D
Thursday at the earliest I think.but I wont be suprised if it's next week !!

enigma

I have just bought 6 new plugs for £12! :p I have decided to go for some 'colder' ones so that they will work with the nitrous. I am also going to get some 106 Octane fuel next time I go to the pod as this will also help prevent detonation with the nitrous.

I feel the need........the need for SPEED!

Hope you get your car back soon Derek, I want some company at the POD on the 29th! ;)

SGHOM
17-02-2004, 06:43 PM
something seriously wrong If It ain't back by then !!! :-D Yes, Dave, I'll make the pod !!
anyone else ??? :wavey:

Spirit

the cam belt is £72 + 5 hrs labour to fit !! so looking at around £240 + vat .

That's a bit more than the £175 they quoted you before :greedy: ???

And how come it's 5 hrs labour when they have most of it in bits anyway ? Are they charging you double labour here mate ???

SGHOM

the quote of £175, was over the phone, & just a guess at the cost of the belt before he got the price from the dealer. even he was suprised at how much one was.
as for the labour, all the've done so far is take of the inlet manifold to get to the spark plugs, & actually that is not a lot to do with changing a cambelt !!
sorry, !! I think I may have misled some of you when I said the car was in bits already !! :$ :$
I dont think now that £240 is out of the way for a cambelt change, but I'll ring the dealers in the morning to see how much they would charge. that is unless anyone knows already ???????

17-02-2004, 11:41 PM
The cambelt change should not be 5 hours if they've removed the plenum, which is what seems to take most of the time. You need to remove the plenum to get to the second row of spark plugs. If they are going to remove the rover cover to replace the spark plug gasket (which are £18 each for a 1.5" circular rubber gasket !!!) you should have a look at the condition of the cams. Due to the high quality oil required for the VR4 the cams should look like new. You should also replace all the spark plug gaskets and the rocker cover gasket so it'll be good for another 60k miles.

Good luck.

:$ :$ you mean flamer kit ?? why not !!! they're only £99 !!! or £149 fitted, & they work great with de-catted turbocharged cars !! :flamer1: probably very soon.
As for the nitrous ?? that will be a while yet. :$

Interlec, speak to Darren at Nobles about using nitrous with a Unichip.

Yeah, the unichip has separate outputs to drive solenoids..........fully mapped nitrous....dribble!

but I'll ask !! did speak to Steve, & he said they didn't really want to do nitrous, enough on their plate already. I also mentioned that wizard of noz give a guarantee with their systems. "probably your best bet" he suggested ??
