Great to get together today at JapFest and talk to faces but I neglected to put faces to real names to cars to Forum names

Sorry about that - wished I introduced myself properly and checked everyones name/car etc

Perhaps we should have a photo gallery with cars/names etc to help with days like today, partic for new people

Enjoyed apart from weather but not too wet for tack time

Our erstwhile website guru/geek/nerd/mate got the ride in my car for the track time

Unfortunately my stand-in for Spielberg had a mishap with the technical side and the bullet can apparently wanted to tape to its memory stick thiny or some other such whatsit so we had to hand hold my camera and 'Spielbergs' camera

When I say we, I mean of course him... I was apparently too busy steering the damn car

And a note for Barry as he will see from his own footage...we have some moments where we have a great view of the sky!

We should not laugh as its not very easy holding two cameras and looking thru a camera screen to aim and trying to stay in your seat as you 'fly' round CC

Well done Barry and thanks for getting some track footage that I could not have got on the day without you

And great cloud formations as well!

Next stop JAE, or is it sooner elsewhere?

Barry and Peter...what about TRAX at Silverstone 07-09-03?

Hiya Chris.

Was a great day, shame about the utter ****e weather!! at least the rain kept off most of the time but the ****ty wind made up for it.

It was good to meet up with you guys, although in person I am fairly quiet as you may have noticed..:)
I knew who Barry, Pete, Phil and Simon were and put them to their cars but I lost the plot when I tried to figure out who owned the Legnums and the Galant with the HOOOGE EVO spoiler on the back.

We saw everything despite the lousy weather but unfortunately missed Norris's motor get scuffed up the side, we saw that race initiatly stop when one of the EVO's had an accident of some sort and the ambulances etc drove onto the track to pick up the pieces, at this point the race was stopped for about 10 minutes at which we decided to bugger off elsewhere, during our absence there was more carnage to come... Norris this time!

That Escort was going some at the same time you were on the track Chris, he also cut in close to you while overtaking at one point, which seemed a bit close!
Did you see the Escort when it had its accident.. the smashed up left wing? serves the git for being so cocky!:D everyone on the hill where we were, were cheering as it came into pits!

Anyone see the million Scoobys down the bottom of the lane from the right of our stand? WAY too many!

All in all a good day!!!!

Brind - So you were in the front row silver saloon with privacy glass

Not sure I remember the face though - old age catching up with me

Which car was Simon in? - back row witrh 'Norris Designs' on side?

Only saw the Evo towed away and that was from afar and missed Norris crash as well

Yes that Escort was crazy, passed in a braking zone - against track rules, missed his accident but came across some debris - I heard afterwards of his missing pieces but do not know what happened and assumed after this that debris was his

Walked past all the Scoobys - so many the same!

I am still working at getting some of you lot to do a trackday, ideally come with me to Nurburgring, as passengers if the first step or perhaps the only step just to see the place

We did not get that much chance as a group to relax and socialise at CC with the wind and rain

Finally, I have to ask, how did you and your footwear cope with the conditions?

Chris

Yeah that was mine, we had a car between us, not sure who they were.
I was the younger of the two hanging around the car.

Simon was directly behind you in the Black VR-4, I spotted him straight away since he has the same number plate as me all by >1< number!

I'd love to go over to Nurburgring, I'm not gonna risk damaging my motor though! :o or someone doing it for me.
When I was a lot younger the family went over to Germany for a holiday and we got diverted off the main road onto the Nurburgring race track!

The wind and rain really was a pain in the arse! I had a headache from early on which didn't help.
But we still enjoyed ourselves a hell of alot!!! :wiggle: never done that kind of thing before.

Oh and the shoes were fine mate! just a little mud on the sides but I'll live and my therapist is very good and supportive. :D

My thoughts...

Firstly i want to say a HUGE thank you for all of you that turned up.. i cant really thank you enough. It was a good show of cars for such a young club... Things can only get better. thanks again!

Well, i got off to a bad start heading off to Japfest, , from leaving work untill we got to our B&B in Chippenham INSERT INTO post VALUES (and drinking a beer) it took 9 hours! bloody long day on Friday..

But, then Safeway’s, so many VR-4's! cheered me up no end! the 9 hour drive was soon forgotten. We arrived at Japfest to be greeted with the closest spot on site, perhaps the furthest away in some respects, none the less we were there!

I have to admit trying to put faces to cars to forum names was a bit of a struggle, so don’t hate me if i forget you name next time around :INSERT INTO post VALUES ( what Chris said about the cars, faces is something im INSERT INTO post VALUES (the "guru/geek/nerd/mate" ) implementing on this site... so hang on in there..

What i did notice however, and its something i felt i would expect meeting other VR-4 owners, was the attitude. No bull****, bollocks up your selves, etc.... as per, erm, some of the EVO drivers.. A good bunch of guys and gals who enjoy the car for what it is.. respect.

Pete, nice meeting you, and a mental note, must have clean engine bay next time.. must have more attention at my car.. :D speak to you shortly mate. INSERT INTO post VALUES (enjoy your hols!)

Chris, although I was a bit freaked about going out on track, I soon calmed down and realised you knew what you were doing.. you might notice by my Spielberg moments, that they INSERT INTO post VALUES ( I believe) got better towards the end, as I was not looking at the track as much, and looking at he screen a lot more.. ive not checked out my footage yet, but will tomorrow.. sorry for the sky moments, however thought it might add to the atmosphere and the thrill of the race  INSERT INTO post VALUES ( regarding trax, will address in another thread soon..)

Brind: clad you kept your cool with the shoes, I know if it wasn’t for therapy, I would have probably lost it.. good job keeping cool :D

Before I waffle on to much, another thanks to all of you, it was a pleasure meeting you guys INSERT INTO post VALUES (and gals) and cant wait till the next event.. JAE here we come.. INSERT INTO post VALUES (must have bigger gazebo that MLR ! :D)

Cheers

Barry

Guys

A quick reply from me before the wife catches me on the pc and kicks my ass as I have still not packed and we leave in 7 hours !

It was great to meet everyone, and I agree it was hard remembering whose car/face/name/nickname was who's. I also agree that it was nice that there is no bull**** flying around our club.....like mmmm some others !

It was also cool when Richie turned up mid morning and we managed to obtain another car pass to get his Legnum on the stand - we do have to thank the MLR for that !

After watching some of the track action I must admit I was tempted to have a go, and was a little disappointed in myself for not having the courage originally to do it - but next time look out. It was great to see Chris and Barry on the track though and I have some good video footage of this which I will bung on a CD and post to Barry today with some pics of the show.

How many of you guys knew me and Barry met the editor of Japanese Performance Magazine !!!! He took a few pics and he took the details of the club and said he wants to run a buyers guide on our car in the near future ! MASSIVE !

Had a little fun on the way back ! We took it steady most of the way and for about 20 miles nearing Exeter we had a MR-2 behind us and kept a stready 80-85 pace with no messing. Then, just past Exeter this guy and his mate in a Honda CRX blasted past us, and something inside me and the MR-2 guy snapped and we had some fun chasing him. I just sat behind the guy for about 10 miles and made him aware he could not lose us. Then he slammed on the anchors when he saw a copper parked on a bridge, and so did we of course. The copper appeared a few seconds later, lights flashing and I though oh **** INSERT INTO post VALUES (we were doing 95 ish). But lady luck shined on me and MR2 man as he blasted past us and nicked the CRX guy !!!! hahahahahaha

All in all guys it was a great day and was only let down by the weather. Now looking forward to the next event and implimenting some of the ideas Barry and I have for the Club ongoing. Take it easy and I will be back in 2 weeks !

Pete

It was a fantastic day. I don't even own a VR4 INSERT INTO post VALUES (was with Barry) but I still enjoyed chatting to you guys. I have never been to a show with cars on the track before. I've been to fastcar, maxpower etc and of course elvington, but not a proper track lik CC.

The day just seemed to fly by. I was glad to see all the cars at the show were decent cars. No Nova's with stupid bodykits on them etc. Just pure japanese performance cars INSERT INTO post VALUES (apart from the MX-5's & the MR2's that is :D )

Me & Barry walked round the track which was pretty good. Got to see some interesting corners! It was funny watching the cars getting used to the track. On the first lap they were always spinning the wheels round the corners and nearly losing it, but as they went round they seemed to get faster and faster.

Very very good day and I will be doing it again for sure!

Hey bud, careful with the MX5 comments, Ailsa would easily kick your ass up the quarter mile in our hairdressers car ;)

chris g
18-05-2003, 05:05 PM
And careful about MR2 comments

They were my first performance car and if you ever get to trya turbo as a passenger with a fast driver on a good track then you will know what acceleration, handling and speed are

Having been round the Nurburgring with some fast drivers Iknow its a great handling car and fast

A really good sports car

Best to speak from experience I think

Chris, i watched my footage today.. were no sky moments though,, there were a few of your thing on the dash.. what the hell is that anyways?

chris g
18-05-2003, 08:26 PM
So you got the best footage on YOUR camera

I got blue sky and cloud formations!

Well most of it is the track and other cars so its OK

That on my dash, depending on what you filmed, is either my sat nav or the Morpheous Geodesy - sat based speed camera warning

And not offended about MR2 comments, just that the MX5 and the MR2 in partic are underestimated by many people

If any of you will go as a passenger with me to Nurburgring, my mate in his MR2 turbo will show you how it goes, really goes!

Did you get the Escort cutting in front of you on the camera?
That seemed very close from where we were, well not close but very scary looking!
I'd love to know what he hit?
When he came into pits there was a red 200SX in front which was doing very well!! it appeared asthough it was that that had problems, then the escort came in with a very buggered left wing. :D

chris g
18-05-2003, 11:17 PM
Well yes 'we' got it on my camera but I do not know about my cameraman and his footage - both shot from handheld but I do not know if his smaller camera caught the same or similar images at a slightly different angle

Well, when I say 'we' got it, I was steering the car so we could follow others and get good pictures and the Escort flies past on our right in a braking zone but not really a good sense of how close it was

BraindG
18-05-2003, 11:21 PM
he didnt hit anything, his tyre blew! theres a picture somewhere, cant find it just now though :INSERT INTO post VALUES (

Brind
18-05-2003, 11:22 PM
I've gotta say, he was bloody good! all bar the illegal move but he was really giving it some!
That 200SX wasn't far behind either! I'm a great fan of those but I was very surprised to see them handle so well yesterday!!
I span one out coming out of a roundabout, round the corner from me a couple of years ago and dinged every bloody corner! not badly but it needed repairing, I hit a black ice or something as I wasn't pushing it.
Ever since then I've been very wary of it!!!

Good day out enjoyed it very much apart from the weather, nice to meet everybody and look forward to seeing you all soon.

P.S. Skyline and Sunny Gtir only wanted to play for a mile or two on the way home, Wimps! I also went past a black Legnem which was not at Castle Coombe.

Take it easy.

Paul.

I think Japfest was the first show we had been to where we saw some VR4's on display. Although I don’t have a VR4, my old man has just bought a brand new one INSERT INTO post VALUES (03 reg). He’s just not the best on computers so I’m his translator.

VR4’s are quality motors, a lot quicker and far better road handling than his old FTO. We where told that the car we bought is the last new VR4 in the country, is this true?

The car also seems to have a lot of different add ons that I couldn’t see in the cars at Japfest INSERT INTO post VALUES (will send some pics soon). Does anybody know what a standard VR4 should have? It is a manual INSERT INTO post VALUES (close ratio?); has a sun roof, monmo steering wheel, chrome & black alloys wheel, spoiler with brake light and recaro seats.

Spot on to the chaps we met, very friendly.

Quality site by the way - we couldn't find any info on this car a few months ago. Does anyone know where we can get a English Manual as the Japanese one we where given isn't the easiest to read?

BraindG
20-05-2003, 07:36 PM
im not sure when the last ones were/are produced in Japan. However 3 years after that, once the japanese version of the MOT expires we should start seeing them arrive here...

Theres plenty of years left in the little baby yet :D

Hiya GREX welcome to the site!

Most if not all INSERT INTO post VALUES (previous to your old mans) don't have a sunroof.
Purly for the reason of a more rigid body shell to help stiffen the car for better cornering.
Plus we have climate/air conditioning, what's the point in a sun roof.

You will notice that the facelift model from correct me if I'm wrong, 98 onwards has a few exterior body changes.
The interior was also changed quite a bit, but then that depends on what extras you bought.
You can get the new shape car with normal seats either leather or cloth and a dash and steering wheel to match.
Or you can get a new shape with the additional Sports Pack which includes Recaro seats, momo steering wheel, carbon fibre look dash etc.
Some of the wheels on our stand were different to the original.
We all have LED spoilers.

Haven't heard anything about a 2003 model being the last brand new one.

Brind,

Neither Mitsubishi's UK nor Japanese websites mentions the VR-4 as a current model so I guess maybe they've gone end of line. GREX's dad's 03 VR-4 could well be the last new one in the world, not just the UK! :D

Talking of stickers, Mitsubishi slapped a web site address on the back window of our car http://www.Mitsubishi-cars.co.uk, which is really useful considering they don't have any new VR4's on the site as Brain says.

Also can anybody read the Japanese stickers splatered all over the inside of the car?

Brind
21-05-2003, 05:45 PM
You've got a sunroof Simon? weird.. thought our cars were identical with our plates being virtualy the same..

Also can anybody read the Japanese stickers splatered all over the inside of the car?
It reads..

"DO NOT stick your head out of the window at high speeds as it is a very silly thing to do"

"If you attempt a drive by shooting, remember to drive off very fast"

"If you can read this label, then you must be able to understand Japanese writing"

"Enjoy your day"
