what are you trying to accomplish exactly?

The final drive and front diff ratio is 4.111 on a VR-4, and the rear diff is 3.323. The transfer case ratio is therefore 1.237:1

I don't know what the transfer case and rear diff ratios are on an ST-R, but the final drive ratio is 4.055

thats a good start, and in answer to your question i have successfully turned a 97 legnum ST 4X4 into a vr4 but need to know if the rear diff is compatible or not (trying to avoid all the ayc crap etc) thanks

hmm, if you bolted the engine up to the stock manual ST gearbox and transfer case I'd just leave it as it is.

If your ST is an auto, you're best to swap the whole lot. the stock auto is crap in the ST's and trying to make the drivetrain half VR-4 and half ST would be rather difficult.

I would suggest if you do swap the whole lot, get a VR-4 gearbox and transfer case, and bolt those up to an EVO 4 LSD in the back. It will fit and work just fine.

I also hope you have a VR-4 ECU and VR-4 Gearbox ECU

How have you done the conversion? What bits have you used?

If you are using the transfer box and the rear diff from the same car (VR4 or STR) then I don't believe you will have any problems.

vr4 engine and ecu (ST ecu wouldnt work coz it had a distributor not coil packs as with vr4)/4 speed auto and rear diff (97 legnum 25ST 4x4) vr4 ecu and 5 speed trans ECU (does not work with 4 speed trans suprise suprise) looking to buy a 5 peed tiptronic gbox and rear diff if anyone has one...

you really want the full gearbox, transfer case and rear diff in that case.
