I have been in contact with taupo motorsprt park about track hire.

now it aint cheap and the only way to make it viable we need as many people as we can.

attached are the prices to rent the track (as i said, it aint cheap!

I've done Taupo before, its a fun circuit. Would certainly be keen to do it again at some point too.

In fact, looks like GPForums guys are trying to get one sorted too (the last one I did was GPForums organised) - http://www.gpforums.co.nz/thread/306319/

Would be much easier to try and tack on with one of these I think, too difficult to get the numbers and the cash otherwise.

Sorry guys I have yet to get around to asking the contact I have at Taupo - will try and contact him this week as he lives nearby. I'm still keen if we can get a decent deal though.

pungatree - it would be great if you could talk to your contact as i dont actually have enough spare time to ogranise it if we have enough interest

Will do - just been busy with other stuff lately but I will call in and see what he has to say. Might be able to sort out some cheap accomodation locally depending on numbers too if anyone is keen. Let me find out about the track first!

I cant help but think that it would be cheaper for the auckland guys just to try and do a day at pukekohe.. I think it cost me like $80 in gas the last time i went to taupo for the import allstars last year. So id rather chuck that money at a closer track, it would also be 100 times easier if/when something goes bang on track:thinking:

Id love a track day, but at the risk of deja vu-ing the older threads, itd depend on where when and how much. I think the idea of shared day is a good one for a starter.

i would go as a spectator!
sorta, same reason as mpau009.

If something happens on track, the thing would be getting it home!
Plus i wont be allowed!! with baby on the way and stuff.

I'd be a starter for Taupo, but would have to think long and hard about Pukekohe though.

yeah i tried to get info about Pukekohe but no one bothered to get back to me so yeah, if someone else whats to hit them up that would be good.

the reason i tried taupo is because i figured we might beable to get some of the wellington members to join in

Ok everyone I've had a quick chat with the guy I knew and he is going to find out more. He reckoned it wouldn't be too hard to tag onto the end of another event / driver training session especially if there was only going to be around 15 cars or so attending. He is going to find out more and hopefully get back to me next week so that I can let you guys know more. Sounds promising though and doesn't sound like its going to cost too much either.

Ryan
22-03-2008, 06:29 AM
OK, I've also been thinking about it and I'd also like to come down and see everyone again and possibly even have a go on the track too.

I've never driven any NZ circuit before and I am keen, it would just depend on the timing of the meet. Wedding on the 5th and then honeymoon in Raro until the 16th... (April)-

Got a call today from the guy I know and he said that it really looks like something will happen. He gave me the name and number of another guy who takes bookings and schedules track events. When I spoke to him and explained the situation he didn't think that it would be an issue.

He suggested that we tag onto the end of another session or driver training event and can access the track for a couple of hours. He also suggested setting up part of the track for an auto test session with cones etc as he said that we would be bored driving round the track for a couple of hours! I'm sure we can get around this but it may be fun and a chance to let the cars cool down a bit!

Now for the price - he said that it would be approximately $125 each for a couple of hours which i thought wasn't too bad given the earlier quotes. He said that the track isn't so busy over the next few months with winter around the corner but said that it should occur in the next couple of months and he will email me with some times etc. He asked if we would prefer if we did it one weekend and i said yes since most of us work during the week and many of you will need to travel here.

So at the moment things are looking promising - just a bit of a waiting game but sounds promising. Will keep you all updated. Any weekends etc that are definitely out over the next few months?

Committee - just a thought, if this goes a head maybe prizes for full paid member for lap times, time throught the cones etc?

Just a quick question, which track at Taupo would we be running on? Same as the Superlap one?

I'm free any Saturday to go, if its a Sunday I need to give work 2 weeks notice to get it off.

pungatree1
28-03-2008, 08:52 AM
I presume it will be the full track. The track can be split into 2 or 3 separate sections - either way it should still be fun. I won a hot lap in an nz v8 last summer and we did a shorter version of the track and so didn't get to go down the full back straight but it was still awesome! It felt like a go-kart the way it slid around and the brakes on that thing put the vr4 to shame!

He's going to get back to me with dates and so we can try and sort something out then.

Yeah you can do that up in the bad ass street of auckland /Steeringw

I would go but only to better my driving skills, I don't feel like crashing my daily driver But will need my brakes done before I can think about any thing like this

What kind of safety requirements (apart from bringing a helmet) do we have to have?

Ryan
01-04-2008, 03:10 AM
Crap. I don't have a helmet - not a racing one anyway.

Gly
01-04-2008, 05:41 AM
standards approved helmet,

100% cotton overalls,

and depending on what kind of track event it is, a fire extinguisher

Ryan
01-04-2008, 06:03 AM
Great. I have none of that gear. Do you think we'd be able to hire some down trackside?

Great. I have none of that gear. Do you think we'd be able to hire some down trackside?

Helmets are cheap as chips, under $100 for one to do the job. So are fire extinguishers, iv got a spare non rechargable one, glovebox size that id donate, they cost like $15-20 from supercheap.

I would be keen for a June date, i think that is achievable without killing my car. If not, id probably still tag along for a looksee/hot lap;)

Ryan
01-04-2008, 08:54 PM

Oblivion
02-04-2008, 12:26 AM
Crap, only got a helmet at the mo.
Fire extinguishers - anyone know where to get the 0.9kg MSNZ approved ones? Perhaps a group buy if enough people are interested.

Gly

your supposed to have overalls for puke aswell.

Last time I checked - you needed a helmet, overalls and a fire extinguisher. All loose items also had to be removed.
