View Full Version : SKY+ Hard Drive

Sitting in Livving Room in peace and quiet for a change :speechles

I noticed that the Hard Drive on the SKY+ Box, keeps comming to life evry now and then :inquisiti The Box is switched off(On Standby) and no ligts light u when the hard drive kicks in :inquisiti

Is it Sky accessing the Sky+ Box ?

Yeah, sounds like updates. I've pulled the phone cable on mine as it was very annoying in the evenings.

But as you are on stand by maybe the updates are not being saved on HD :speechles

Assuming this is the same box with the funky odd-paddle shaped remote that we also have here as well as australia, i do know the Aussie one does this quite frequently. My grandparents had one replaced for that reason, and an acquaintance of mine said he puts up with it, that was 6months ago now haha

It's Sky Anytime.
And I don't think it ever actually stops the hard drive, it just switches it to "Low noise" mode.

I may be a feature of the hard drive and nothing to do with the Sky box.

Yeah ours is the Pace and it does this all the time.

Interestingly, I took my hard drive out and updated it's firmware, and it's much noisier now. Damn it.

Trying to establish which drives are big-endian now, so that I can slap in a nice 250Gb one. Then again, I may have a better idea...........

What size HD do Sky Boxes have in them ?

I believe the HD units have a 300Gb drive, of which 160Gb is available to the user.
Sky+ boxes generally have 160Gb Drives, either setup for 80Gb User, 80Gb system or 40Gb User, 80Gb System, 40Gb spare.

The older boxes had 80Gb or 40Gb drives....and don't support Anytime. Which we all really need, right?

I think all that's correct?
