Ian/John, I dont know if it would fit or not..........your best bet is to get in touch with Mitsubishi and get the part numbers for the following

Cat (Doh!)
2 Cat gaskets

I can then match them with my records and we can take it from there! If Kieran would let me do his then I would have a template! :p

I'll put you both for now anyway!

They are very easy to fit due to the 'miilimeter perfect' accuracy (Petes words not mine!)

I am guessing that it wouldn't fit the 7G, but you never know!

:( sorry dave i'll have to withdraw as the place i'm getting my rear section made had made a special price with me about fitting back boxes they are not supplying. i had also said they could replace the cat at the same time!
so after talking to them today and saying that i know longer need them to do the cat, they said this was up to me but it would not make much diff to the final price..whitch is £150.00 for making a stainless duel rear, adding my new boxes hanging it all and doing the cat in stainless. :undecided sorry bud!

OK Dave. Part number for V6 gaskets is DMB687004 - £3.18 +VAT if anyone is interested. Is that the same as the VR4? If not I'll let you have a template.

Kieran
One of the reasons I want a decat is so I can keep my cat wrapped in cotton-wool to be refitted if the MoT needs it (but I'll be putting it through without initially). Ever considered the cost implications of failing an MoT on emissions when the cat is installed?? :greedy: They do wear out and they do get damaged.

Purely out of interest, does anyone know the cost of a new cat from Mits?

Hmmmmm, the VR4 part number is MMB687004, I wonder what the significance of the D or M is???

I am guessing that they are the same shape but made of a different material?

Anyway I am quite happy to send you a pipe, if it is wrong send it back and I will refund the cost of the pipe!

John
02-03-2004, 12:28 PM
Thanks Dave.
Part number is as ordered; when I pick them up I'll check the number on the wrapper. I'll also confirm the major dimensions. I'm guessing they are exactly the same item - leading letter could be manufacturer, country of origin, stock location etc. All refs for Mits parts in manuals and on the web seem to just have MB prefix.
Let me know when you want some money.

Nick's correct, payment to BDA, he's the guy who's shelling out for the raw materials and producing them!!

For those who are unsure about this mod, I can 100% recommend it - having fitted mine personally last weekend. It did fit perfectly.

Make sure you (or your exhaust fitter) lubes the new bolts with 'copaslip' or a similar anti-seize compound, then you'll have zero dramas if you ever have to put the cat back on for MOT.

My car is a '97 Legnum with 41,000 miles and I had to cut all the cat bolts off as they were impossible to remove normally. The cat itself appears in good condition (no internal rattles and the honeycomb structure is intact).

Like a previous post mentioned, it's worth £45 to just put your cat away for MOT time. They must be upwards of £400 to replace??).

We all know the Cat rules are a load of Bo##ocks anyway, IMO more politics than anything to do with safeguarding the environment.

Hi, sorry not been following this thread much, but got a few Q's for BDA or anyone else that can answer them.

Is the pipe and flanges stainless or mild steel? and if stainless is it welded with stainless wire?

Also it sounds like I could probably get the flanges cut cheaper - Dave, if you pm me I'll see what I can do (for the next batch obviously).

Cheers.

Mike.

My pipe was delivered to my work place last week while I was out to lunch, so the lads at work opened it up and put a piece of rusty old exhaust off a van in the box and sealed it back up.

When I got back from lunch I saw the box and knew what it was straight away, ripped it open... WTF! :rolleyes5  but I soon guessed from the howls of laughter as everyone standing at the top end of the building watching me in the office scratching my head  what was going on.

Cheers lads /starts punching palm of hand again :D :-D :D

BTW Dave, the pipe is great. The performance difference and sound is much improved and, even more noticable, the gear change is much more quicker and smooth (anyone else notice a difference in the gear change?)

Hello Dave.
I've been itching to get one but my concerns have been with emissions etc.
My car went through its MOT last week and I discovered the MOT is NOT done by Mitsubishi like I previously thought, they would just take it somewhere else.
I had it done elsewhere and I know the people there.. ;) so it shouldn't be a problem.

Put me down for batch 3 or whatever.. it's just got to be done. :)
Before Japfest would be nice..... but whatever! cheque can be written as soon as I find a pen.

Looking to do the downpipe too.

You'll have no trouble mating it to the Fujitsubo...precision fit guaranteed!!

I Managed to get hold of some surplus AvGas the other day (the stuff the tankers draw off for water sediment testing- gets thrown away normally ;) ).

No worries about damaging the CAT now, yippee, so put it in 30/70 with Optimax......Lovely smell to the exhaust so I took in a couple of lovely lungfuls of fully leaded efflux :p . She went like a rocket. Must have been about 102 RON by my calculations. Now I know what the VR4 should feel like all the time. :)

I find it just perfect, a lovely (relatively quiet) burble at tickover, a nice sounding resonance at about 3000 rpm, then it seems to stay the same volume up to the red region.

Once your windows are up there is very little noise propogation into the cabin, but you will find yourself lowering your windows when you go through a tunnel or between two high-sided buildings 'cos the noise is lovely :) (eh, Derek????) :-D

The De-cat accentuated the resonance around 3000rpm - in a positive way- it makes you realise you are driving a V6 - nothing else sounds the same (my Ford cologne V6 sounded similar). I actually prefer the sound of lower rpm than the higher.

Anyway, one of the benefits of only one track session at Castle Combe is that I'll get to hear the others going round - you never quite appreciate how your own car sounds until you hear someone elses or let someone drive your own car................the only person I'd let drive mine is my Dad, but he's too scared ( an MG Montego scared him once, Ha Ha!!)

So, in answer, I think your missus will be happy with it. ;)

If there is enough interest from the other side of the world I can make a batch up and ship 'em in a box for distribution locally...............

Unfortunately I won't be at Japfest as I have to go on a works expences paid outing to the touring car races. Can arrange some other means if it is a spare one.

Cheers

Just A thankyou to dave for his de cat pipe :thumb1: :wiggle: . Fujitsubo arrived this week, fitted it with de cat. Bit of A problem getting old system off, had to grind off bolts either side of cat, bolts wouldn't budge and was puting to much pressure on down pipe flexi :( :( .new system + de cat just fell on everything lined up perfectly :-D .Doesn't seem to be any noisier inside the car and A noticable differance to power. Once again thanks dave and everyone else for there advice. Now what to buy next?? here's the wife comming have to go :scared1: :nono: :argue:

Is it advisable to reset the ECU after fitting?

Plus I was talking to Alex from Edge tuning, he mentioned an exhaust manufacturer named Tanabe. Anyone heard of these?

Aye it does this, you need to put the alarm in vallet mode.

This allows you to discon the battery without the alarm going mental.
