Hello everyone.

Unfortunately it's time for me to sell the legnum. Basically I really love the car and would like to keep it forever, but my naughty doggies and regular trips down dirt tracks at work are starting to damage the car and it's upsetting me seeing it happen.

So i'm selling it in order to get something I won't feel so guilty about if I scratch it.

The car is a 1998 facelift hamilton silver legnum, with recaro interior and 96,000 miles.

OK i'll start with the bad points and get them out of the way. Unfortunately there are quite a few but fortunately they are pretty much all cosmetic;

1) Probably the most heart wrenching is that the drivers side rear seat has been eaten across the top. The back of the seat is fine but the top has had the foam and material removed by a very bad dog /pan

2) the steering wheel is starting to get worn on the right hand side

3) there are three small stone chips on the windscreen, none of them are big enough for an MOT failure though

4) there are some scratches to the bodywork. The worst is a small patch just above the petrol cap. The drivers side rear bumper has a scuff mark on it

5) The brake calipers could do with a paint

6) There's no load cover in the boot (cause it got eaten)

7) The rubber seals around the doors and a little bit on the sunroof have had the edges nibbled on by a squirrel :inquisiti

I think that's it

Ok the good points are,

1) it's just had it's major service at 91,000 miles, including a cambelt change and fluids changed for amsoil products.

2) It's just had new brake disks and pads fitted to the front

3) the front drivers side wheel bearing has just been replaced

4) it has Enkie 17" wheels from an evo on it, and it has Brembo calipers from an evo 6 fitted

5) it has a very good service history and has been proffesionally converted to MPH

6) recently had a Blueflame exhaust fitted

7) Comes with a dog guard (that obviously did very little guarding), that has been modified slightly so there is now a large sheet of metal attached to the bottom of the guard so bad doggies can't get to the back seats.

I think that's everything, if i've omitted anything then please tell me or if i've forgot something i'll add to it later. Pictures will follow shortly, hopefully tomorrow.
In light of the problems with it I am asking £3500 for it. I may get the problems rectified in which case I may relist it, but for now this is ma asking price.
If you've any questions please ask
thanks very much
Dan

There's someone who has expressed some interest in it, so should they decide to view it, they will have the first dibs, but here are some pictures in case they aren't interested:

OK I have my surf now and the other guy that was interested has bought a different car so if anyone would like to buy it from here they can have it for £3000 before I put it on pistonheads and autotrader.
Thanks
Dan

lol I know it's just I only got one space on the drive and i'm scared some little chav little remove the wing mirrors from my new car! I will put it on autotrader and pistonheads for more money, if I can find another location to store it safely i'll get the rear seat done and the car tidied up, so it can fetch a more realistic value (hopefully :D )

Hello Dan,

Do you still have the car for sale?

I live in Norway so i need to drive to Newcastle(Upon Tyne) to take the boat back home.
How far from Newcastle are you?

Best regards

Lars,

From Mansfield where the car is it should take you around two hours to get to the docks in Newcastle.

That is a great price for a 1998 legnum!

Hope this helps!

Mike

Hello Mike,

Thank you for the useful information.

Since i never have been in UK and i need to take boat back to Norway, it is the best to find a car that is in a "okay" distance from Newcastle.

About the price for the car it seems like an good price yes....

Best regards
Lars Ove

Hello, like Miller says I think i'm about two hours away from Newcastle. The trip down is fairly easy as you just follow the M1 motorway from Mansfield to Newcastle.

If you've never driven here before though i'd understand if you wanted to find something a little closer to newcastle.

My last car went to Sweden, but that guy had like an agent that bought loads of Skylines and then shipped them back to Sweden all at once.
thanks
Dan

Hello Dan,

First off all i must apologize for the late reply.

Not a bad idea....
Maybe there is a solution that you deliver the car at the export terminal in Newcastle...?
Then the car would be shipped to Bergen.
Only bad point to this is that I must transfer money to you without really knowing that you send the car....

In these days(with to much work and a 7weeks old son) it is hard to travel to UK.

Please give me your comment.

Best regards
Lars Ove

Unfortunately that's how it is at the moment - You'd think a Recaroed Facelift would be no bother, but yeah, no-one wants them at the moment.

I would think getting the seat fixed would be a big bonus though - Maybe give Mo a try?

Ma car's on ebay again, but someone's messaged me to say that the interior and steering wheel indicates it's a Ralliart imported car.
Am I right in thinking that's not correct? I'm fairly certain Ralliart ones had a built in rear foglight and Ralliart stickers and stuff.
Going to see a upholsterers next week to see if they can do anything about the seat.
all the people that's been selling a recaro interior want to sell it as a set, they don't want to sell one piece seperately. Although I did see a photo of a standard cloth interior legnum and the rear seats were exactly the same design and patterning, so i'm guessing it's really just the front seats that are Recaro.
Mitsubishi didn't even get back to me with a price for a new seat. Might try a different dealership.
I'm starting to get a bit desperate now!

The interior was an option on all facelift VR4s, so doesn't mean anything except that they were factory fit. You are right, the rear seat is standard on Recaro/non recaro models, but I have only seen the red on Japanese spec cars.

I am suprised you aren't selling it for that price too. I'd get the issues sorted and it should sell for £4000 every day of the week!

do you know if rear galant seats and legnum seats are the same?

Nutter_John

No the galant ones do not fold down , where as the estate ones do

Could do you a swap for leather and cash your way ;)

sorry but I think it might be too much work and my steering wheel won't match then. Thanks anyway.
What about a galant estate, would that be the same?

Nutter_John
29-05-2008, 11:07 PM
Yep if you find one with the red spec interior like yours then you should be able to swap just the rear upright part

Have a steering wheel as well :P

A galant estate is identical, but I haven't seen a UK car with a red interior. There is the same pattern in blue though.

Ah - Now that's not quite true.... On the UK-Spec Galants, the seats were split/fold like the Legnums. It's only the Jap saloons that are different. Unfortunately, the UK-Spec cars never came with the red fabric you've got in your car - Just blue.

yar it's a bit pap. Really I need to get it on autotrader, I would like to get the parts and make it better but I need the driveway space urgently and I have to get the money to pay off the credit card I used to pay for my new car.
I'm starting to think breaking it might be a better idea.
Will try autotrader for a couple of weeks and see

Just hold on a wee moment. I am probably interested... but it might mean I have to wait to sell the RX-7 first.

OK i've sent the seats to upholsterers to have them repaired so hopefully that will help my sale, the bumper scuffs will be looked at and hopefully i've got some new door rubbers coming.
Therefore I am removing this from sale, until the parts are refitted. It will be readvertised in autotrader whn it's completed.
Thankyou for any interest already shown

Well it's still for sale, been in autotrader for a couple of weeks and had not one phone call, here's a link to the ebay advert now: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-MITSUBISH-LEGNUM-VR4-VR-4-recaro-galant-estate_W0QQitemZ160273749896QQcmdZViewItem?hash=it em160273749896&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C24 0%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I've repaired the rear seats, i've repaired the door seals, i've given it a service, but it doesn't seem to be helping the sale.
Does anyone want to offer me a price (or tell me the scrap value of a legnum lol)?
