It depends - I got caught with the coupe - I forgot to renew the SORN. I got a letter about a month after it ran out basically saying 'whos a naughty boy then' and it fined me about £70 - However this was halved if I paid within a week of the date of sending - So the next day I got on the blower and sorted that and then renewed the sorn online as usual.
