Just wondering what wax polishes you all recommend, I've sworn by Autoglym for years now and I'm just wondering whether or not it is time to change.

www.detailingworld.co.uk - All you could ever want to know.

AutoGlym are not that 'fashionable' in some quarters, and some of their products are bettered - However, they still know a thing or two about cleaning cars and a lot of my own collection has AG products.

Autoglym Super Resin Polish is one of the best all round products out there.

If you polish reasonably regularly, like every couple of months or so SRP will be fine.

You may wish to top it with Autglym Extra Gloss Protection, this is a UV sealent which will lock in the finish and give very good durability.

There is a world of difference between polishing a car and full on Paint defect correction, which is what I specialising in. Complete and safe defect correction takes a LOT of time and effort including the use of more specific products.

For example Autoglym Super Resin Polish contains in no particular order..

Cleaners, fillers, mild abrasives, sealents, and waxes.

It really does depend on what level you wish to take the paintwork too.

I used to use polishes, but I found that I needed to keep polishing it to keep up with the shine.

So now, I only give it a wash, a coat of Autglym Extra Gloss Protection and then wax it with R222 100% carnuba wax.

I noticed that AG have a spary on wax now, anyone tried it?
Apparently you apply it to a still wet car then use the special cloth to buff it off. sounds useful.....

I used Autoglym for years....'Merc valeter'.....and do my own machine polishing, and for final polishing and protection keeping nice n' glossy i now recommend Meguirs.......if you have a pearl or metallic finish i find it gives a deeper colour....

... and then some!

Autoglym SRP/EGP combination as above is a decent one.

Spray on waxes are better used as a top up between polishes really, but a nice timesaver.

meguires all the way not as course as autoglym or merr!!

i use gold normally but in the process of trying their nanotech detail spray and have to say its bloody good and easy to polish off halfords own brand for cleaning wheels and im a big fan of tyre black while people dont use this stuff is beyond me spend hours polishing your car and the let your tyres ruin the finish - i just use cheapo tutrle wax for this as cant resist a polish after every wash!!! ;-)

Always used to use SRP and EGP and found that it gave great results on my (metallic) Rover and (pearlescent) Octavia. Currently, using Meguiars on the VR-4. Comes up nice after a polish (which does not get done often enough!) but not as deep a shine as the other cars but I think that's more to do with the fact that it is flat white and not metallic - nothing to do with what polish I use.

BEING A CLASSIC RACE CAR BUILDER/RESTORER I HAVE TRIED ALMOST ALL EVERY PRODUCT YOU CAN IMAGINE AND IN MY PERSONALL EXPERIENCE MEGUIARS IS BUY FAR THE BEST OUT THERE AS LONG AS YOU KEEP ON TOP OF IT AND USE THE CLAY YOU CAN GET AMAZING RESULTS.

BUT THAT SAID WILL I SHEL OUT THAT SORT OF MONEY FOR THE WIFES VR4 HHMMM  I THINK NOT (HOPE SHE DOES READ THIS)

ON THE OTHER HAND WHEN I BUY MY SKYLINE I WILL BE INVESTING IN SO MORE MEGUIARS. JUST OUT OF INTREST WHAT DOES OUR RESIDENT CLEAN FREEK (Kieran) USE???

My collection is pretty eclectic - At the moment the current brands are stocked:

AutoGlym
Meguiars
CarLack
Collinite
P21s
Sonus
ClayMagic
Chemical Guys

There's a few other odds and sods too - Leftovers and cheap stuff that I use on the Golf.

If someone asked me me what the best product for cleaning/polishing/waxing a car was, I wouldn't be able to give them a straight answer. It all depends on the paintwork in question and what result you're after - and how much effort you're prepared to put into keeping it looking good.:scholar:

There's a car care specialist down this way who's products did a virtual clean-sweep of a recent Autosalon (show-car mag) analysis article. Just looking over the site you can get a good feel for what's good and there are a few useful 'how to's on there as well. www.waxit.com.au - worth a read, although I expect you'd be better off finding local suppliers of most of that stuff ;)
