Pete, Is yours the AC22, or the AP22 ??? I've ordered the AP22. & how easy are they to set up initially ??
they reckon they are accurate ??? or is this just sales speak ??

Mine is AP22 - downloadable version. I think it a great little device for comprisons. Doesn't really need any setting up to do times, but it can get a bit more involved if you want to get bhp estimates, rolling resistance etc. Just get it level and secure and away you go.

The hardest bit is finding a flat, straight empty road on a wind free day.

You can view the results of each run in the car, then download them all onto your PC and make pretty graphs.

I only use mine to compare before and after readings. I leave all the settings untouched.

Accuracy - I don't know, but I think the results are repeatable. A run that feels fast is usually timed fast.

For instance normally the standing starts are all much of a muchness, and the figures bear this out, ( peak g reading of about .75). But once ( and only once unfortunately) I felt I got a real flyer, tyres chirrupped and I was away. The g meter reflected this with a peak reading over .9 - I have posted the graphs somewhere quite some time ago. I'll try to find them or repost.

If I ever get to a drag strip I'll run the meter and see how the times and speeds compare.

Have you recorded any 0-60 times Pete?

I have got some figures, and it records faster 0-60 times since I had the latest work done on the car.

0-100 and quarters show bigger improvement.

But thats all I can say because its not been calibrated.

If you are a normal mortal ( unlike you !) and have to pay 'experts' to do work on your car, 140 quid to determine if its made any improvement on the road is a small price to pay related to the cost of the work.

.???? say's on the web site that it doesn't need calibrating ??? confused now ??

Don't be confused, you'll be pleased with it.

For me it confirms my feelings that the car is going better than it was, it feels better, and the figures from the AP-22 back it up. Most important it makes me think that the money spent on mods wasn't totally wasted.

If you read the 0-60 times of the same car in different mags they are often different. BDA and Spirit use an Apexi RSM and get 5 point something 0-60. If you put the AP-22 in the same car on the same run you might get a different result. If I ever do a pod run I'll count that as my calibration and post the results.

The readings suggest the car is on at least 0.1 sec quicker for each 10 mph increment from 10 to 100 ( haven't gone any faster), which is well worth having. Suspect the improvements will be even more over 100.

The Apexi RSM is great as it is wired directly to the ECU - but as you know it's dearer. If you use it like PJ so you can see the improvements made but do not need perfectly accurate readings then great why spend the extra - however could have got you an Apexi with the G sensor (for g-force readings to get accurate BHP figures) for around £170 (but in km/h)

So you are unwilling to share these figures then Pete? Even if it is just for fun???! :)

I'll see if I can post a couple of graphs for you.

Spirit, I've had the AP-22 for a couple of years, so to change to the Apexi, even at the excellent price you can get them at, was never really an option.

Also one of the features that I like is that it requires no wiring in, just a bit of blu tack and a spirit level and you're away - I can cope with that !

just done my 1st little test run today !!! plonked the meter on the dash, switched it on, [ no calibrating to my car ] & of I went !!
not the most impressive results, but the weather was awfull, wind sleet etc !! & the road conditions not ideal. [ not quite straight, level, or even ] but nontheless, I recorded a best of 5.82 secs to 60. had to abort a few times because of traffic etc !!
And before anyone says anything, the road has a speed limit of 60 mph, & I've not read anywhere that tells you that you cant get up to the legal limit quickly ??
a couple of other runs were over 6 secs !! [ 6.35 my worst !! ] all my runs were done from a standing start [no launch control ]
I think a little tweaking of the boost, better road/weather conditions, & a bit of practise with launch control, & I will see that time come down considerably !! :-D :-b

Anything sub six in a family size automatic estate is not to be sniffed at, especially first time out.

Have fun, keep your eyes on the road not the meter !

keep your eyes on the road not the meter !
that was the tricky bit !!! eased off a couple of times too soon, & recorded my 0 to 50 times !! :$

After many attempts at producing graphs small enopugh to upload, I've given up. Just as well now becuase uploading is suspended.
Just for fun, these are two readings taken direct from the AP-22, first one held in second until 60 was passed to get the best time, second one all in auto mode. Meter hasn't been fully set up for HP figures but is supposed to be pretty accurate for timings.

It would be great to know how accurate the figures are! 1/4 mile is 1320 feet, so extrapolating your figures for a few more feet gives a time of approx 13.7s!! That's pretty impressive!

Looking forward to seeing you at the pod sometime. :)

Next Sunday could be the time - I'm going to be passing the pod on my way back from Brighton - and there is a RWYB meet on. I want to know how accurate they are as much as you !
