Hello!

After getting more then a little tired of my old car, a 97 6G72 Magna I started looking for a new car, and even toying with the idea of dumping a heap cash into the Magna. During my searches I found out that the VR-4 was now good to import through SEVS in OZ! Without any delay I had gathered up the funds got in touch with an import broker and now I have a Mauve/Grey 99 Galant Type S on its way over with my name on it! It could also be the first VR4 in Canberra??:afro:

I could only be happier when I'm finally behind the wheel! /rally

Righto, anyway, just thought I'd say hi to everyone and thank you for all these wonderful resources! So much reading to do.

No doubt you'll hear from me again soon, more then likely in a "Aahhhh, somethings broken!!" capacity but still.../pan

Because of the holidays over in Japan atm it probably won't be on a ship till mid next week, after then looking at around 14 odd days to get to Sydney then off the the compliance workshop for an unknown amount of time, the rego inspection etc etc.

Aaaarrggh the wait! /Grrr

ohh you bought this one :)

This car was posted up on OZVR4 and everyone liked it a lot. The site's owner Van fell in love with it and wanted to buy it but he didn't have the cash.

I love those wheels :D

Who did you buy it through? One of the importing agents?

I loved it when I first saw it too , those wheels!! And the colour actually works really well on the galant's lines. I really can't believe it hadn't sold already! My only hang up was on the MMCS but once I heard the whispers that it could be translated I was pretty much sold.

Ah man, didn't want to step on anyone's toes. But for some reason there are a lot of VR4s coming out at auctions lately, a few super VR4s the last few weeks too. He'll find another to fall in love with, this beauty is spoken for /pan

Yeah, I'm going through Kristian at Iron Chef Imports

He doesn't have the money at the moment anyway :)

You've got a great car, make sure you put up some more pics of those wheels.

scocia

you need to lower it :)

I'm looking into it as we speak.
The debate going on in my head right now is full coilover setup Vs just lowering springs. This car won't see many track days in the next few years so hmmmm can I jutify the cost of coilovers to myself? :inquisiti

bradc
02-05-2008, 08:46 AM
lowering springs will make the car handle well and some are just the perfect height too, check out my gallery.

Coilover's obviously have their advantages, but aren't they illegal in most states? (dunno about ACT)

scocia
02-05-2008, 08:56 AM
Damn I forgot all about the fabricated suspension laws over here. Well then... thats makes the choice easy now doesn't it? /pan

Oh wow, that looks like just the right ride height! Those are the Tanabe springs right? How much did they set you back?

bradc
02-05-2008, 09:02 AM
Mine are Tanabe Sustec's. They cost me $100 :D I think they are fairly expensive new....

CANDEE
02-05-2008, 09:07 AM
I think they are about nz$400 for a set of 4...

scocia
02-05-2008, 09:10 AM
/JawDroppi $100 NZ!?! You lucky bastard!
I'm looking at quotes for $240 US + postage. :(

Hmmm that's not too bad really. I'll start the search for an Aussie distributor!

I've got a reasonable budget to play around with mods but I've really got to make each one count, if you know what I mean?

Hey, at least you've got your car! /pan

Hmmm found places that can do Kings Springs or Tein springs for a pretty good price. Shock absorbers are another story and tanabes ahahaha... well I think I'll leave that in the "maybe" pile.

CANDEE
02-05-2008, 09:36 AM
The teins are a very good set as well :) Ask Kieran about his set :) He has combined them with Bilsteins :)

scocia
03-05-2008, 04:14 AM
I can find the Teins for an average of around $310 AUS + postage + wait from Japan
Set of King Springs "Low" Springs for $265 AUS + postage from within AUS on my door or err well at the post center within a week .
I've got the same kings low on my Magna and they worked a treat.

Wonder if I can get them cheaper still! :afro:

Thanks for the help so far guys, much appreciated!

Id go for Teins for an average of around $310 AUS + postage + wait from Japan option. By the time they arrive you should have your car ready from the compliance workshop and plates should be sorted...

Plus you also get to test how the car handles before you put them in if car arrives early than anticipated.

Jusification: Saftey, and better handling!

scocia

That sounds like sound reasoning to me. And the price difference isn't that massive compared to the quality difference.

If I could I'd grab coilovers in a second! Unfortunately most coilovers will land you with a "defective vehicle" sticker over here. /Grrr

Unless someone knows of anything to the contrary?

Already sourcing a full set of EVO brembos too. :afro:

I would just stay with the tein lowering springs then :)

Also make sure that you will be able to clear brembo's with your nice BBS's.. Otherwise you may be forced to send them over here for me to use.. :scholar:

I doubt the BBS wheels will fit over brembo's. You might want to try them on an evo to see if they fit.

:( what makes you say that?
All I know about them is that they are 18x8" BBS RX model with an offset of 38mm and 5x114.3 pattern. Please tell me they'd fit!?

If not... I may have some BBS alloys for sale sometime soon! :afro:

bradc
05-05-2008, 07:28 AM
The thing is that you don't know until you fit them onto a car with brembo's. The clearance between the hub and the spokes is the important part, and you need about 55mm or so between the hub face and the spokes.

scocia
05-05-2008, 08:39 AM
Ah, I see what you're saying. Guess I'll have to find out on the day.
I'd rather keep the brakes and swap rims if it really came down to it.

Cheers for the heads up mate. :afro:

bradc
05-05-2008, 08:49 AM
rubbish, just find an evo owner and convince him to try your wheels on.

Or better yet, go to a mitsi dealership with an evo in for servicing and give the mechanics a box of beer.

scocia
05-05-2008, 08:55 AM
/lol
I really like that option. But finding an Evo driver in Canberra could prove to be pretty tricky. But there are a few Evos ( brand spanking new) sitting in a Mitsi dealership in the city... maybe with a little charming I could get a favour.

bradc
05-05-2008, 08:58 AM
evo x brembo's are different again :)

give them two boxes of beer, steal the evo x wheels and brakes and tell us all if they bolt straight on!

(my research says they will)

scocia
05-05-2008, 09:26 AM
/lol

Better hope they've only got the one or else my get away will be fairly short lived. /pan

bradc

LOL :D

An EVO X chasing a VR-4 around the capital would make for an interesting news story
