I have tried in vain to link to external images on a number of occasions. I have use dboth IMG01 and IMG2 tags but both insist on putting http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/ in front of the supplied URL.
This means I now have a large number of images in my uploader area as I have to copy them locally then upload in order to post them. This has two knock on effects to the site:

1. Storage space is used which then has an additional impact on backups too.
2. There is additional load on the CVR4 server as all images are transferred from this server not the original host.

Is there anything that can be done to sort this or am I trying to do it wrong?

I use photobucket and that has a direct link which 99% of the time appears direct in the post without CVR4 having to host it. Photbucket has 4 options of links for different reasons, i use the last on the link. this also works for my signature pic etc

For reference Mike, I can't see your image at work because the Photobucket site is blocked. But I have just looked at the link and it does indeed point straight at the image. What do you do to create the link when posting?

Below are three different methods of linking I would try:

1. Direct Link
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-8OT34PBY.jpg

2. Using IMG01 http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-8OT34PBY.jpg

3. Using IMG2 http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-8OT34PBY.jpg

I will see if any work.

Lee,

I copy the IMG code and just paste it direct into the post.

The IMG code looks like this....i have split it up after and before the tags to stop the pic coming through

[IMG] http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b319/miller_63/Mitsubishi%20Legnum/VR4sig.jpg

This code is available from Photobucket directly beneath the pic in question.

Lee,

Lose the numbers after the IMG code, yours were noted IMG01 and IMG02 by just using [IMG] before and after it results in the pics as shown above

I have adjusted yours as you can see

Hmmmm....... I have noted this thread. As some of you know, the IMG tag restrictions were made a long time ago. Maybe it's time to review them?

I always thought the reason for uploading all images to CVR4 was so that the information was always there.

If for example BeastLee writes a thread and tags images from his photobucket, its great. However if he leaves in 2 years time and deletes his photobucket account and then someone new comes along. They cannot now see any of the pics on the thread therefore making it less effective as a forum.

So I always thought it was a good idea for CVR4 to host the pics then they are never lost. IMHO of course!
