Mmmm looks a little moist under there:inquisiti

Could be a drive shaft seal? Somebody far more knowledgeable than me will
be along soon to advise I'm sure.

That looks like a fair leak. Going by the position, it's either a bad seal on the gear oil sump seal, or a weeping seal on the propshaft/diff join.

As a rule, driveshaft seals are in the region of £10-£15 from a Mitsy stealership, so I would imagine that this seal would be a similar cost.

how can I tell ...? Do I need more clearer pics ... or from a different angle ...and what would be the best angles.....?

In both of your pictures, the propshaft is coming in from the left. I'd get back underneath and see if there is an angle where you can see the oil appearing from around the joint. I don't think you can see the seal itself - IIRC there is a metal flange siting over the end of the shaft, I guess to protect against too much dirt getting to the seal.

It should just be a case of following the oil back to the source? If here is no oil higher than the sump plug then my suspicions would certainly begin there!

My rear diff killed a bearing a while back. You can tell if it's this at fault as it will make a whining noise when you come of the go peddle. At least that's what I got. Had to get a new bearing made which wasn't cheap, but worked out cheaper than a new rear diff..

I would degrease the area first as it will be hard to tell where the oil is coming from and then go for a short drive and recheck or put it up on stands to check while in drive

Just had my car served by Mitsubishi for this thing, i was some seal that they changed.

Not so expensive, he told me that they often change them in the 4wd drive LS200 car.
