full exhaust system, boost control, intercooler, piggy back ecu would be the mods you would want to do to increase the power at a reasonable price.

okay was thinking about electronic boost control and exhaust to start would that be the best place to start? any reccomendations on the control aspect?

simple question , how far do you want to go in the future ?

my car is a daily drive and not after massive power hoping to get to 300 if safe upto 350 if possible.
the car in question is bog standard the plan was to get exhaust, decat and boost control initially have looked at a couple of options greedy and apexi units but you guys ave more experience with the motors than me so pointers would be appreciated.

The reason I ask is that if in 1 yrs time you want more then you probably would be looking at a mapecu2 , but if you got one now it would give you the boost controller and fuel controller built in , so the intial outlay is more but the long term gain is higher .

But deffo need an zorst and filter before anything else

As for a daily drive I cover a lot of miles in mine and have it running upto 1.1 bar with no issues

just increase the boost and get an exhaust system, you'll be very happy with that.

what sort of £££££ we talking about for one fitted i am ok with a spaer but wouldnt trust myself with any electronics.

At the momment budgeting around 3-500 quid for controller

a map ecu2 will set you back around 800 quid fitted and mapped ,yes this is more but once you get used to the power you will want more :D .

The mapecu2 has it all and you would need no other thing in the short term to puh beyond 300 safely , have a look around for reviews by people who have had them fitted , drop BenH a pm

interesting i presume that its re mappable as and when i add remove more bits in the future

Yep exactley , so you add an intercooler in six months , get a slight tune up more power , add bigger injectors a tune up and more power etc etc

so you get the big bit out of the way and have more options later on down the line

I have already done the exhaust and decat on mine and will be going for the electronic boost control next. Would be tempted to go the piggy back ECU route if I had more cash to spend on the car. Most likely I will be going for one of the Blitz dual solenoid jobbies (as recommended by Ben at Eurospec). They cost around the £250 mark. I may also go for an uprated intercooler at some point (just need to decide how safe higher boost is on track with the standard cooler).

Depends how big your budget is, really.
I can get a..say...Seat Ibiza to 600bhp, but it'll burn a hole in your wallet that'd make you cry!

You can get there, you need bigger turbos, forged internals, full fuel system, full ecu anda myriad of various other small changes.

Have search for threads involving "Valmes" as he's taken things about as far as I'm aware of, we're all just waiting to see if his engine blows up (not forged bottom end & ~500+???). See if that's your cup of tea.

And, of course, EVO's that have gone that far typically have issues with Gearbox and AYC. Nobody has run 600bhp long enough to find out what fails first! LOL

How about 'dropping' another 6A13TT in the back of a Leggie?

Not much power modification required to either engine then!

That would be more difficult!

how much we talking to get a vr4 up to 600bhp? Thought these cars were on the same sorta level as skylines. They regurly run around with 600bhp under the hood... why cant these motors run that high?

Well, it's not that they *cant* per-se, it's just as yet no-ones achieved that level. This year should see some interesting developments however.

This thread sums up the current 'where we're at' situation with these engines, but the info could well be out of date beyond July! ;)

I'ts a lack of research and development sort of thing. No-ones really done much in the way of stengthening our engine so we don't know where the limits are.
