Cheers guys.
The price was really good, wasn't it?
Now as Stuey mentioned, I need:
New wheels,
Braided hoses,
Discs,
Pads and a £1000 to pay for all of that !
But I treat it as a long term investement :)
Lucky it is facelift so no hubs needed as PT said.

Well done!

Why mate?
Is that the best set?
I was thinking about turbogrooves and DS2500

bradc

Carbotech's are the best pads, not doubt about that. For the rotors, there are lots of 2 piece options out there as well as single piece, depends on how much you want to spend :)

What do you think about EBC Ultimax? they can be bought around £210 - £230 from Ebay

Any cheap pads from you're local motor factors will do. Just press the pedal harder !! /rally

In that case I'll just made them of wood :)
Remember that I'm a newbie with VR-4 on the track so I rather go for something high spec.
I really hope that I'll manage to get everything sorted for TRAX and take my Mitsi on track on Silverstone.
Now it's only the case of budget... very tight budget...

I would deffo reconmend Carbotechs as they are by far the best brakes pads i have used

To be honest, standard Ferodo pads and bobby bargain discs on the Brembo set up have worked fine for me! I'm not sure I would bother with much more. I have had pagid blues on the Brembos, and they were better. But I'm not sure they were worth 5 or 6 times the price?

Are the hub carriers on a facelift (non vr4) the same as vr4 ones?

Well done Marcin - I take it your pax session at Japfest has increased your desire to get on track

Just need to get you on a full track day /rally

Then you will be fully hooked :pimp2:

Well done Marcin, easy to fit mod. I've got some Carbotech XP8's (used) for the fronts if you want try them. I found them too noisy for road use and the dust was terrible. Bought some Mintex ones for about £30 and they worked very well with much less dust.

The red calipers will good on your Silver car.

You've got a very good impression H.
I don't think I'll be able to get everything ready before next season but it looks like on the next Japfest I'll be on the track :)

Also bought the lowering springs and chosen the wheels, all I need is money...

I had the original Evo 5 discs with my set with redstuff EBC redstuff pads..ain`t had any brake fade with those at all.
Brake lines fitted too with no problems.
Nev i think those are bare brembos with no pins and brake pad `springs`?Mail the seller to see if they come with them.
But good buy for Fronts and rear calipers though.

Hope you don`t have to sledge hammer the old discs off too like i had to.

I hope they do. The description says: "...complete set of Brembo calipers removed from a Evo 6 road car, they are in fully working order..."

In worst case, is it a big and expensive problem to get hold of those pins and 'springs'?

Nick Mann

Camskill do them as kits - pins, springs and shims. You'll find them under Brembos.

i've just been running about in a vr4 with this set up on brembo's and omg they are ****, no feel, they fade really quickly about as confidence ispiring as a bungee jump run by pikeys. maybe i've been spoilt with the carbotechs, but i'm on 294 and twin pots not 330 and 4 pots, surely they difference should be the other way round. i don't care what anybody says about pads don't matter, if they say different then they are talking out of their arsehole.

bradc

psb, who's VR-4 is that then? I found that in normal driving there is no difference with stock pads on VR-4 calipers compared to stock brembo pads on brembo's. But under hard braking on a track, the normal ones faded sooner and only stopped the car say 40% as well, whereas the brembo pads only went down to say 70% or so.

pezza's, after some hardish braking(its not my car so i ai'nt gonna push my luck) they started to feel a bit vauge, then after a few more they lost all bite, the pedal did go very soft so it could be the fluid being shot but there was just less and less bite the hotter they got, whereas the carbotech revel in the heat and really bite when hot

The Brembos just arrived!
And the are completed with clips and pins!

I'm over the moon!

They just need good cleaning and repainting.

Sorry for the daft question but what should I clean and repaint them with and how? Or should I rather give them to specialists? If so, where to?

swinks
30-05-2008, 10:40 PM
IMO: treat them like an alloys. Same sort of cleaning (guess, you may need sanding old paint, best way air compressor with sand powder), and then powder painting with heating and infrared paint hardening). There are many easier ways also :scholar:

Nevman
30-05-2008, 10:48 PM
Thanks Swinks but it is easier to say than do.
I'll probably use Gunk or some other solvent to clean them but I don't know if I should take it apart or at least remove something before solvent bath?
And then sanding and painting, how? where? I have no idea.
I was hoping that someone knows any company that can do that?

swinks
30-05-2008, 10:55 PM
Before solvent bath remove any seals and other rubber or so components. Treat just bare metal.
You can sand yourself by wired drill endings (like brush-wire for rust). Buy several different shape endings (try to get copper or brass than steel) and have a fan with drill. It'd be not such as professional as factory work, but after painting (even paint for calipers you can buy in spray) it's really hard to spot the hand made "factory". The worst to do it'd be just white "Brembo" on red calipers.

There's a company called Big Red that can fully recondition your calipers, and sell remanufactured ones. Not sure what they charge..
http://www.biggred.co.uk/

otherwise just give a quick clean up..

I've just emailed them. Also emailed Godspeed as they also do the brakes reconditioning.

Hi Nevman,
Is there a metal fabricaion place that you know?
I have been to one on my way to work and have seen that they have a sand blasting machine. If there is one close by to you pop in there or give them a call for a price. It is a hell of alot easier and you will DEFINITELY get a near factory finish.
Not that I have done mine but at my work place we have a small blaster and the items come out real good. And look the " BLING " after a paint job.
Anyway, good luck with your brake upgrade, just need to buy rear discs for my self.
Jerry.

Hi Jarryd_33

Ive decided to go for the following set:
1 x CarPlan Brake & Clutch Cleaner 500ml
1 x HyCote Very High Temperature Paint 400ml - Red 650oC
1 x HyCote Very High Temperature Paint 400ml - Clear 450oC

The calipers don't need full refurbishments as they are in very good condition except the paintwork peealing off some parts of them.
The only thing I am concern about is that the Brake & Clutch Cleaner won't damage the seals.

Sounds good. Just be very careful bleeding the brakes when you fit them.
Brake fluid tends to seep out and undo all your good work/Grrr

Go for it, saves messing with stripping the calipers down...

you can even get these for a finishing touch..
