It's beena couple of years since I removed the manual box from the donor car, and I have a few things I am now unsure of. Can anyone help? I'm off in to the library in a bit to see if I can work any of it out......

There are two clean machined holes in the top of the box - there must have been something there?

I also need to repair the cable mounting points, and the main mount above the box.

Anyone got a manual chassis number so I can peruse caps?

Thanks all! :iloveyou:

Tried to look at my gearbox, but very obscured by the airbox & intake, haven't got time to remove it now as gotta go out to work soon. I might have time tommorrow to have a look for you.

my chassis number's 0004049 after the usual EC5W if that helps looking stuff up.

Nah - the speed sensor is still there. Could be a reverse switch though? That'll be good to know - the reverse lights is one thing I haven't planned for yet....

About time you got on with that Manual conversion!:afro:

I am! Three pedals in my Leggy now! Just need to fit the hydraulics, the shifter & cables, the clutch, the box, then refit the transfer box, driveshafts (checking for differences) prop shaft, starter motor, engine mounts, intake pipework, filter, strutbrace, downpipes, support brace, etc........

And I am now 99% positive that it is the reverse switch I am missing. Part number MD730979

Very interested in this project.

Keen on buying a Legnum soon, but cant bear the thought of an auto.

What would the cost of the conversion be?

Don't entirely discard the idea of the auto box, it is an excellent piece of engineering and most definitely not your standard automatic :pimp2:

Give one a try (or go out in another member's car) to see what I mean! I can't remember if Nevman's is an auto or not though...

the tip boxes aren't that bad, but there are manuals in the UK, if you really want one just look around a bit and be prepared to wait.

Approximately three days labour. The parts are not cheap. It has cost me nearly £600 altogether, and I go the bits VERY cheaply indeed. I did the swap completely by myself too, so no labour cost.

So far the only issues have been a torn radiator hose (It has been a bit spongy for a while - removing and refitting a couple of times finished it off!) and a leaky driveshaft seal, which I think has been fixed by fitting a new one.

But as stated, check out an auto first - there are probably as many advantages as disadvantages.

Never had an Auto/Tip before until I had the Silver facelift. Owned that for 4 years - fantastic car used tip though 95% of the time

mm, well, I am prepared to drive one and see at least. Luckily, there is a manual for sale at the moment, I am in no big hurry, so I could wait for one to come up. .
