bought myself a SUPER VR4 :pimp2:
getting it on thursday, before i pick it up the seller is putting it in to Mitsubishi tomorrow to have the traction control looked at and for fitting all new brake's & a full lube service (all fluid's are clean just now), putting the car to an alarm specialist .. all though i think it only need's a new battery in the fobe?
it has lay off the road for 14 mth's in a heated garage (more like a heated in door car park!)

all i can say it "I'M BACK BUT THIS TIME IN A REAL GALANT"
pic's and other stuff will follow later in the week it's only covered 41K and all the belt's have been changed about 18 mth's ago (which was only 60 mile's ago!) Hamilton silver and it's an even rarer saloon SUPER 4 :pimp2: i only drove it 500 yd's (due to insurance and it having no MOT or TAX) but when the seller took it out he say's "what way would you like me to drive it?" .. i just say's let it warm up and then i'll just sit here and watch .. he managed to get two AYC light's on/rally pull's amazing,

IVE BOUGHT A VR4, IVE BOUGHT A VR4, IVE BOUGHT A VR4, IVE BOUGHT A VR4, IVE BOUGHT A VR4, IVE BOUGHT A VR4, ... erm i mean IVE BOUGHT A SUPER VR4

i can't wait to get it, ..... my first ever VR4 it's took a while for me to actualy get my hand's on one but to get a "SUPER" is just so amazing :afro:

Hey Ian, awesome news :D

Glad you finally got a VR-4. At the very least you can finally put to bed all that time of indecision over having one or not :)

I am looking forward to your customary personalisation of the car also :)

Nice one mate.

cheer's guy's .. ive also got to give a mention with MASSIVE THANK'S to thee one, thee only Kieran (we've had the odd message bouncing back N forth the past while and a good ole chat on friday night over the phone)

the car i'm getting has already been posted on here ... it's this one

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h32/jacsuz/6059_1.jpg
it didn't sell .. i also had to pay a bit more than the ebay selling price, but i think for what work the seller is getting done to it, i recon i payed a very fair price.
first job: take of them bloody stupid VR4 sticker's and the door "bump" protecter's then i'll set about cleaning. TBH not to much cleaning is needed it's a very straight and very nearly an origonal car (Blitz exhaust, Blitz induction, Blitz boost gauge & Blitz dump valve) it also has a Fuel Cut Defender fitted but i can't see any other engine mod's other than what ive said? .. any other reason as to why it would be fitted??

and i love the way the dash board changes colour with the car's speed

It's good to have you back Ian - Okay, you never really went totally away, but It'll be nice to have you back as a "Regular". And you're very welcome on the help! Glad it all came together for you! :afro:

Welcome back to Galant ownership and I look forward to pictures of a very Shiny Galant on the forum soon!

OOooh! In what way Ian? I know the supers have a slightly different high contrast dash, but I didn't know they did that!:speechles

/EDIT: Re: the FCD - A lot of Jap owners seem to fit them when they're not really required (if you look at 'owners rides' on carview.co.jp you'll see what I mean). However, it's possible that the car was getting occasional cut with just the filter and exhaust, given the right conditions. Mine certainly did at standard boost on cold evenings - A rare event, but it did happen a couple of times.

It's also quite possible that the car's had a boost controller on it at some point, but that it's been removed since. This quite often happens on import into the UK - Quite often boost controller boxes are just sticky-taped to the dash and this fails the SVA as it's deemed to be insecure and therefore a 'flying object' hazard in a crash.

FCD means it was likely run at a reasonably high boost by someone in the past.
If the Blitz induction is a pod filter then it could well be that the car was showing high MAF counts and needed a FCD to remove fuel cut.

Could be worth taking it to someone who has a wide-band and seeing if it is running very rich. Based on that, it may be worth while trying to get hold of a standard airbox.

i hardly slept last night! i can't wait to get the thing!!
and in 3 week's it'll get a decent wee trip as we are off to the caravan in berwick and going to try get some touring day's sorted out to (while we are away)
the Blitz filter is brand new, it came with it to the chap selling it, but when you look at it, you'd think it was only a few week's old? only fault i could find was that the "Trac Off" light stay's on, i tried to switch it off/on but nothing, mitsubishi are also to look at that? .. might just be the switch it's self?

all body panel's are spot on, inner wing's and under side front of the bonnet have a few small spot's of surface rust (not much realy) the paint work has nothing, hardly even any stone chip's but it is in need of a good ole paint cleaner and polish (whitch i'll take great plesure in doing ... probably daily!)

Kieran, the Dash looked like as you past every 10 mph mark on the dash the back light's changed colour? .. to a kind of violet colour, i may just have been imagining it?

bradc
16-06-2008, 09:26 AM
nahh, the tcl resets itself to ON every time you turn the car on. Won't be the switch.

ive got my E30 cabrio up for sale ... that'll pay for the new alloy's i want for the S-VR4 and maybe some Tein (slightly) lower spring's?

Maybe the previous owner permanently disabled the TCL (shorted the switch perhaps?) so that when you turn the ignition on, TCL is automatically off? I know that I pretty much always turn the TCL off when I start mine up!

That is so awesome - I would love to see a pic of it sometime! I assume it's the white bits that change colour (i.e. the red/orange markers/needles don't change)?

this is something i'm still not 100% sure of (Kieran will know)

but as standard a SUPER VR4 come's with
deeper skirt's (side's front & rear)
red carpet, red MoMo steering wheel & shifter
Reacaro seating
bigger rear wing (more EVO IV like than VR4)
colour coded head light surround
different exhaust (the one i'm buying has been fitted with a Blitz system now)
an absolutly amazing looking back-lit dash board (purple light)

OK Kieran :scholar: please add to this (correct this)

Dam it! .. /Hissy double Dam it!!!
just called to sort a time for collecting the S-VR4 and ...the car ain't ready, it flew through it's MOT then the car died? turned out the battery packed in, so a new battery was fitted and then the engine management light stayed on? so it's now with a company called "Hypertec" getting it's electric's monitered & checked .. maybe get it tomorrow.
the seller has said he's just after peice of mind that all is well with the car before he sell's it, he also say's if it need's something that is costly to repair then he will have to consider his option's ie: leave it as is & sell it cheaper or put the car to auction?
he did also comment that he's very happy to do the work (if anything is needed) as he's very happy that he'll be selling the car to an enthusiast

what's 1 more day /Hyper ... ive only waited 4yr's! :uhoh:

this will be them, then: http://www.hypertechscotland.co.uk/

Bummer but he sounds happy to get things sorted out before selling it to you

yeah, the seller is a "sound" guy i could go on about his car collection that he showen me but i think he'd rather it was kept fairly quite? let's just say he is a man of excellent taste in car's ;)

also spoke to a mate about 20 min's ago, he use's the same garage to look after the software in his race prep'd skyline so it's looking like he's went straight to the best to get the fault sorted?

think i'll go and pop down a few sleeping tablet's and waken up tomorrow :inquisiti

Hopefully it's something simple. It's not a surprise the battery died if it still had the tiny Jap battery fitted (like mine). You only have to leave the interior light on for a while on mine and then it won't start ...

the VR4 is deffo a bigger car, but not as powerful as my Impreza was only the VR4 will pass 130mph (on a private test track .. near me)

i changed my user name as nearly all the forum's i'm signed in to i use the same user name and all my mate's call me "Big Ian" (amoung other more chosen names) so it's kinda easy for me to remember :inquisiti seen as i'll be 40 in 2yrs!

cheer's Jane, there was quite a bit of luck involved leading to me being able to go for this car.
i'd not long bought my "mint" Scooby, then a very keen Impreza owner saw my car and all he said was "ive gotta have that car" a few week's later the S-VR4 was on ebay, then it finished (sold) .. i then got another call from the impreza fan offering me a price that i had to accept, Jacque then said there is only one car you should go for? .. a VR4. i kept the phone number for S-VR4 and called the owner it was still there due to a dealer had won the car on ebay but the seller didn't want a dealer to mark up the price ... and the rest will hopefully be history
