After much scouring i found one post with mention of the ayc diff noise been louder when hot.
Lets say the diff has no problems and you don't get any noice at all

Would there be any friction benifit to the SPIII if there was a cooler.
Say something like a 280mm x 180 hight x 19mm
It could fit behind the vents on the rear bumper (although i havn't actually measured it yet - its 2am)

an AYC cooler?

I don't really see a need for it because you'll never be on 1,2,3 bars for long enough.

(Unless you are going around a roundabout continuously).

Have to agree ... I don't really see the point in this one.

I've put my hand on the back of the diff after it's been trashed and yes it does get warm, but it would be hard to add a cooler into the system. There aren't any plugs in the diff casing for that sort of thing, and I doubt you could use the drain point because it would be too low. You'd also have to setup a pump for it and everything else, it would be quite a lot of work. Probably easier to change the oil more frequently.

Thats the sort of info I was after.
It was one of those late night "what if" things while i'm over my monthly data cap and cant do much browsing.
I don't know how warm they get, but we do know that after a bit of driving their functionality alters slightly - put this in that basket with my kleptomaniac "oohh shiny" ideas

there are 2 oils that would need cooling

1) Diff oil - Some high performance cars have rear diff oil coolers
2) AYC clutch pack fluid.

I would expect that the AYC clutch pack fluid would be the most prone to burning, in which case if you put a cooler on it (you will have to drill some holes into the diff housing and tap for hose fittings) you will probably also get a smaller amount of cooling to the gear oil due to lower case temperatures.

Better would be to have multiple coolers, you wouldn't need anything big.

It is my opinion that a cooler on the clutch packs would be beneficial as we know it is one of those things that when not looked after can end in destruction of the clutch plates.

Well we know the temperature of the clutch pack fluid changes its operation - weather its worth the work - tapping - air trap problems is the decider.

Full track ayc car /rally - yes, if it was easy to put the cooler in line with the pump - yes.

I was thinking more along the lines of the clutch pack rather than the AYC pump.

Putting a cooler inline with the pump would be easy.

but largely pointless because that fluid doesn't get warm at all.

The clutch packs and main diff itself would be nice to cool, but just too hard!

The best way would probably be to aim some air up from the bottom of the car to flow over the diff.

Ah ok, see I'm getting confused with what parts what. Still a newbie doing his research.

So as you said, you would need a pump and drill in some taps.
How much fluid is in the clutch pack out of interest? is this the bit that needs to be bleed to have no air, or is that the pump?

Just over 1/2 a litre in the clutch pack. It's the hydraulic actuation pump circuit
that needs bleeding.

you need about 0.6l for the main diff gears, about 0.5l for the clutch pack, and about the same for the hydraulic part.
