which modes gets to top speed faster?

I'm told auto. I don't have an RSM, though, so maybe someone who has can tell you better.

Never reached top speed so can't really answer that - but what I can say is that I have run many 0-60's and 1/4 miles in both and there is very little difference (e.g 0.1s at Pod).

Depends where and when you change gear and where the peak power is.

I feel leaving it in auto is the best option as that knows where the power is at a given gear etc and adjusts the gear to suit.

I'd say it's quicker in auto unless you know the above.

Something I noticed, while driving, the "auto" will jump gears as approriate, from 3 - 5 very quickly.

I think read on this site, someone testing the acceleration and the "auto" was faster in changing then the "manual tiptronic" when doing the 1/4 mile.

I've kicked it down in auto and it's gone into 3rd from 5th gear at around 70mph!! :rolleyes5 :-b I wouldn't have dreamt of doing that if I were driving a proper manual car, so I guess it knows what it's doing so who am I to stop it. :D
