My engine is being very tempremental and I need another one as a back up! It would also be good to have another so I can sort out some forged internals and other goodies to make a killer

My engine is being very tempremental .........
Darn it!! Someone on this forum suggested I get in contact with you and beg you to take me for a short drive to see exactly what the VR4 is like on the road.
I live in Leicester Dave ..... and wanted to talk to someone who knows the VR4's inside out and any info on local garages (to us) for services / parts etc etc.
Would you like a pint? Or chocolates? Ha!

Now you have me worried ...... do I detect a 'gentle' spin 0-60 will be in the region of 5.5 'ish rather than your best time ....... and a 'spin' is literally that!
I'll private message you later to get your telephone number if that's OK with you Dave. Many thanks for the offer.

All coils and leads are prodicing 4 inch sparks!

I definately have something in one of my bores, I can see 'dents' in the piston top and the spark plug is mullered! I think its gone now......but how the fook did it get in there?

My only thought is that it got in through the dump valve :dozey:

No the engine is a tough cookie.......its had bits in it and it spat 'em out!

horrible thought.... my rover bost a piston ring. Had the same result? (I guess a part of the ring had got on top of the cylinder... I didn't realise until a few miles further on, though, when the oil was coming out the exhaust.....

Or through the Air Filter :undecided

If it got in through the air filter it would have taken turbo compressor blades with it

the damage sounds like mine when i had the top ring land let go ( mine tried to run but didnt ), probably why you are only running on 5 cylinders some times. could be bits coming off occasionaly and then they get stuck under the valve seat. so you dont get any compression and no firing on that cylinder till it moves on.

unclear at the minute - its all a bit scetchy...
its a colleague of mine who has made contact on my behalf with this company..
i dont think it includes the container fee..
then we have to problem of unloading it the minute it arrives, otherwise we get charged for storage..

but if we go ahead with it, im sure we'll all be at the ship yard carrying the container off on our backs :wow: :-D .. ok maybe not, but we'd be eager to pick up the goodies

If you are going through that many plugs it could be because it is running too lean and the dents in the top of the piston are due to detonation or pinking.
What are the plugs like when you take them out? Greyish white? Melted? :uhoh2: :uhoh2: :uhoh2:

enigma

Not running lean....runnig rich if anything! The offended plug looks like it has had the sh1t kicked out of it with a hammer and the ground strap has been mushed in to the electrode thus closing the gap completely. Coming round to the idea it is a bit of piston. This may explain havving to up my solenoid duty cycle to maintain boost. I cant think a bit of piston through my back turbo did it any good at all :undecided
