View Full Version : What is the capacity of the Legnum's fuel tank?

As the title says.

I just read on the interweb that the Legnum has a 55 litre tank size. Surely that cant be right? I'm sure I've filled over 60 litres in my old GLS which I believe has a 65 litre capacity?

If the Legnum does have a 55 litre capacity, then it just became even better cos it turns out the darned car is more fuel efficient than I thought!!! Getting 200-220 miles from a full tank which turns out to be 55 litres instead of 65 (which I assumed itwould be) is pretty good.

I think the leggy fuel tank is smaller on account of all the extra gubbins back there, i.e, AYC, driveshafts, etc.

Edit: Tank capacity for the VR-4 is listed as 60L on the resources page. I regularly put 55L or so in when I've driven around on the orange light for a while, so that sounds about right.

Yep - the VR-4 tank is 60L. The 2WD tank is 64L.

Are you guys sure it's 60 litres ........... I thought the figure was 60 ............... minutes!

Well, that still makes the fuel consumption a little more bearable, not that it was an issue to begin with!
So with the added cost (from GLS to VR-4 comparison) of going from normal unleaded to the super variety, but a slightly smaller tank, the total fill cost really stays the same for me. Result!

All 2wd nz/jdm/uk 8G's are 64 litres and all 4wd models are 60 litres, no matter what engine size or body shape.

Johny

is that just for legnums?

according to the spec site its supposed to do 12km/l

bradc
14-07-2008, 09:22 AM
and did you put in 60 litres?

you need to fill it up, drive it, fill it up again and keep a record of how many km's and litres you use each time.

Johny
14-07-2008, 09:37 AM
most ive ever got in it is 53.7 litres and thats with the fuel light on for 50 kms

bradc
14-07-2008, 09:45 AM
and how many km's had you driven?

Johny

Well, the 60 litres sounds about right.

I put in 47 litres in my first fill (Lilly had put around £7 worth already in the car), which matches up to around 60 litres including a reserve. Promptly did 150 miles or so at 21.54MPG till tank was half full (or half empty).

Filled up again with 31 litres and managed to get 240 miles and fuel guage was hovering midway in the last quarter. That 240 miles worked out at 24.49MPG. I reckon I could have had another 30 miles or so from the car before needing to fill again.

3rd fill was 44 litres and I'm going to try to drive carefully to see how far the fuel can stretch. Hard thing to do when you have a VR-4 engine crying to be pushed!

So far getting 21 and 24 miles per gallon between fills is more than I was expecting. Bear in mind that I've had the car for a few days and am still enjoying the random and frequent bursts of acceleration. I was thinking if I could get 19-22 MPG I'd be happy.

Quick question, at what point do you call the fuel tank to be full when filling? I usually wait for the first click from the nozzle, give it a few seconds, then pump again till it clicks a second time. I pushed it to a 4th click once in my Corolla and promptly got spillage on the forecourt! So 2 clicks is all I dare now.

2 clicks is about your limit, i too have had fuel spillage at three clicks from the legnum

Just squeeze the handle slightly. In my Legnum I can get 2 extra litres from the first time it clicks off. With the work corolla I can get 6 extra litres :D

I could normally get a couple more quid in her, Atik, after the first click, Richy usually stopped at the first I think, but I would say it will hold a couple more litres and it shows above the full line on the fuel gauge.

i just put in 57.3L - thats where the pump clicked, reckon i could have gotten it to 60L.
Yes I did run out of fuel - and yes it was OTW to the petrol station/pan haven't driven it in a week. Thank god for the sallys... I mean the AA

Just drive up and down the road a few times and then you can put a full tank back in./haz

I stop at 1 click or the nearest £1 to make life simple.

Gotta make trip to High Wycombe tomorrow for work. Going to see if I can take it easy at 70mph all the way and see what kind of fuel consumption I get.

Wanna take bets to how long it takes till I stray from the fabled 70mph? /pan

Went to the Glastonbury festival, on the way there I got 150miles from the first half of the tank, driving a very reasonable 65-70mph as my mate was following me in his Shogun, bearing in mind I had camping equipement in the boot 2 adults including me and my daughter, I was very pleased with the figures...... Driving home my friend knowing the route home we decided to go our seperate ways. It took all of 30 seconds driving on the motorway at night , looked at the speedo..........120mph............. there go's the economy........... any way wanted to get home quickly (having refilled just in case) I got roughly 135miles in the same half not really worrying about the cost probably doing a constant 100mph. It's the acceleration that drinks, keep it steady and even at high speed it's not that bad.......

310 km to the last tank... i think if i went from the gdi to a v8 i wouldnt notice the difference in economy lol

I got almost 61 litres when I ran it down to stalling and filled it up to dripping out the filler neck. I got 274 miles out of that one.

Is that so the car goes back into learning mode? I take it that learning mode then uses us a little less fuel?

The ecu can switch to different maps that drop the timing back and adjust the AFR's if they detect knock, which would happen if you were using 91 octane.

Resetting the ECU and only using 98 will stop this from happening.

I've discovered they also do this when you disconnect the Lambda probe too - I've been getting on average a 20% reduction in mpg (from 22 to 17.5) while I'm learning my MAP2 base map. You can almost see the petrol dripping out the exhaust - it stinks!!!
