110,000 mile Auto Volvo S60R.

IMO it didn't feel or appear (according to the speedo) to be anywhere near as fast as 300bhp should do and it certainly didn't feel as fast as most standard VR4's i've been in. It was a pleasant place to be however and the seats were unbelievably comfortable. An enormously capable motorway cruiser if thats your bag, but it's certainly nothing like a VR4.

Oh, and Pendle bike racks are the nuts!

Was it Auto or Manual ? Auto is only 7.2 to 60mph.. Manual is 5.4 so should feel quick..

I think you mean it was refined power ;-)And yes indeed no match for the vr-4 imo. But an auto would tip my civic off the lights any day apart from a cold air feed day :-). Smoooth S60 R they are indeed. Dont you just love that in cabin feel of a volvo. Ahhh Volvo boxy but good.. .. .

Interesting. The guys on the Volvo forums say the Geartronic is slow, but I've never driven one to compare. My manual S60R is very rapid, but has had some work on the boost and is running over 270bhp at the wheels. Active suspension is interesting, but can feel a bit jittery. I've had the geometry changed recently so just waiting to get it back from service to see whether the geometry changes have improved that. It is one of the most comfortable cars I've ever owned, though, and the brakes are awesome!.

Not an R, but I've driven an S60 2.0T which is a very nice car for what it is. Nice ride, great brakes (305mm even on the base 2.0), torquey engine and 5 cyl thrum. If I wanted a saloon I'd seriously look at one.

I think they're great cars, very comfortable seats and very refined....The one I had a lift in, felt incredibly quick, but as wodj indicated about the transmission, it was a 6 speed manual.

I have not checked resale value but am guessing they hold out well?

Yeah it was Rich.

Lovely car, very capable and supremely comfortable, but I was expecting more 'umpf' given the bhp figure. Don't get me wrong, i'd have one in a heart beat but I was expecting a much greater feeling of speed from the passenger seat.
I expect the auto box saps quite a bit with such different 60 figures as Wodj has listed.

Coalville. So mainly motorway and A roads, which I suspect is the S60R's playground.

They are rather heavy (well they are a volvo!) so I'm guessing the weight blunted the performance somewhat. I wouldn't mind one at all either.

ha ha another load of bollox myth, my mates s70 t5 is predominantly aluminium so weighs about 200kg less than my v6, so its pretty rapid, but no matter how quick it is, it will always be a volvo, a 300 bhp ikea wardrobe anybody???

You're right, they are around the same weight as a VR-4, maybe 50kg heavier.
