Kenneth
12-09-2008, 04:46 AM
yep, they monitor knock. I haven't seen it displayed, but I have seen them come out and warn someone they have excessive knock and that they wouldn't do the power run.

Richard - lol. The monaro already has a dyno figure. I'd love to be able to get the BMW out, they are supposed to make 230-240kw ATW stock but it won't be ready.

I'll be there in the ST-R. I want to see how far away I am from 100kw ATW in it. Carsten's ST was 92kw so this one being a manual should be close.

I'll be running it on Shell V-Power 95 when I bring it in on Saturday. This should give us a definitive answer on this octane rating.

Is anyone bringing a reasonably *Stock* Pre-facelift Auto VR-4 and running it on 98 as opposed to 95.

We could then do a comparison.

Joanne will be brining the Legnum. While it is facelift, it is almost standard. Only mod has been to remove the restrictor in the boost solenoid. It even has the catalytic converter still!

How long until you get your new clutch sorted?

If you keen we can do a mission gearbox weekend, I am keen to get mine out and take a look, and put some bushes in on the flywheel bolts.

If you need some machining done, I might be able to talk my mate into having us down at the factory so we can get it all done and dusted on site.

Depends on what his work load is like and if the CNC machines are booked up.

dickytim
20-10-2008, 01:08 AM
I am sure we could find a few spare flywheels around the club to have pre-machines, we really need to see how quickly the club can do a clutch change and re-fit....

ah, flywheel machining, I didn't actually mean that... dunno if my mate has the gear to do that properly (probably does though)

I do have a spare flywheel, but I think the flex plate has been un-bolted so not sure of how balanced it is. (and missing a bolt)

mpau009
20-10-2008, 02:23 AM
I can help out with a clutch this weekend if you guys want. Dad is going to Aussie for the long weekend, so we can use my garage if you like. Give me some good motivation to get it done too, dont think he'd appreciate two or more wrecked VR4s in there for too long :P

Gly
20-10-2008, 05:03 AM
its been ordered and paid for,
so really depends on how long it takes to get here, coming from the US,
probabilly wont be till mid next week if im lucky?

and i would need to have my flywheel machined at minium

i was hoping to go for a light weight flywheel at the same time,
but thats not looking good $$ wise.

then theres the run in time the clutch would need,

see how things pan out really, was hoping to keep the stock clutch till xmas/new years (doupt it now thou)

Gly
20-10-2008, 07:31 PM
well just heard from the guys sending my clutch,
wont be leaving the US till the 24th, so it probably wont arrive on time :(

Kenneth

um, that is only a couple of days time though? What shipping method?

If need be, I have a spare clutch plate... could always take a look at yours and see if it needs replacing.

If the clutch is glazed then you might find it gets better if you baby it for a while (mine did) and slip it as little as possible (i.e. no launching, even to get into traffic...)

I wouldn't have thought the dyno would stress the clutch out much, it isn't like you are actually driving it and changing gear at high load/rpm.

Gly
21-10-2008, 12:36 AM
6 to 10 day usps, so friday the 31st... and id still need to have my fly machined,

it usually 7days exactly from that day it arrives at the shipping depot,

its sliiping in 3rd and 4th at 3500rpm above with any load,

dont want to do the clutch until i have my own stuff,
no big deal if i dont get to go on the dyno.

Kenneth
21-10-2008, 12:49 AM
I am more concerned with the possibility of having to cancel the dyno day.

You can have my old flywheel if you want. It is missing a bolt on the flex plate, but you can still get it machined (it has rust due to being out of use) and ready for an install.

Up to you of course and I guess it depends on if you want to take your car apart for machinging the flywheel before you get the stuff from overseas.

It WOULD be nice to see what your car is capable of on the dyno too :)

try blowing the dust out of it through the inspection bung. i did this on mine for over a year when ever it started slipping and it would last a couple of months of hard driving - just wouldnt do launches. it helped mikes aswell.

if you do this i would think it would be ok for the dyno
