URGENT help!

Hi all,
I've had my car a few weeks, just got the registration papers through so I'm the first uk owner.
My gear changes between third and forth on an auto transmission are not kicking in properly, and the T/C and ABS lights keep flashing at me. Any ideas what could be wrong with the car? I don't see how it can be the solenoid and am very worried that the gearbox is knackered...
anyone else experienced this? It's a 1997 model auto transmission 2.5 litre.

Sounds like you've got a couple of faults.

Having TCL and ABS lights come on suggests that the car isn't getting a reading from one of the wheel sensors (Both systems measure each wheel's speed in normal operation). This can be because of faulty wiring or a broken sensor. It could also be caused by the sensor wheels on the Outer CV joints - Each joint has a toothed 'collar' and the sensors 'count' the teeth. If a tooth is broken or there's some crap in there it can cause a problem.
