add 7 hours D.I.Y. labour......

ITS IN!!!! :D

AND IT WORKS!!!

my hybrid evo 8/vr4 combo works,
I've only done 5 kms on it from my parents garage, back to my house.. but it does work!! :)

first of all big thanks to Mike (mpau009) and Dave (Subaru Eta) for the help,
couldn't have done it without you,

initial findings...

the clutch bites hard,
the pedal is very stock like, leading me to think the hydraulic clutch system in the vr4 is VERY GOOD!

now i just have to get used to it, and do 750km to break it in.

and these are the only pic's (sorry left my camera at home)

oh and yeah old clutch bit the dust in a spring destroying fashion...

3 out of 4 of the spring units had failed (the stealer had fitted a cheap no brand disc before i got the car /Grrr )

Good work fella.. What did the 7 hours DIY work entail, except the gearbox out/in

nothing else, that was just taking the box in and out, and fitting new items
the rear end crank seal was also changed and a release bearing.
and of course new fluids.

how many times did you stall it on the way home? :p

none, but i almost arse ended a subi at the lights :)

getting used to it now though,

except the down gearing vibrations its quite good so far,
but i think my mounts are contributing to that at the moment

Hmm why did you buy the evo 8 flywheel??
Did you modify the stock vr4 flywheel, for the fitting of the ev8 cover?

Hi Carsten,

I am looking forward to your report after driving it for a little while, is it the same as Uc's clutch was or a little more freindly ?

no mods needed it just bolts on,

i bought the fly aswell because the guy was selling the cover/disk/fly as a used combo, and for $20 for the lot there was no point in trying to split the loat for a cheaper price

ive driven 230km's on it now,

90% used to it,

it bites fast/hard,

but i do know when it will so no where near as bad as Uc's IMO

i can ride it a little, and there is a bit of judder but thats due to the puk style disk i chose.

happy with it so far,

now you have proved that we can use evo clutches, is there any reason that we can't order the whole clutch kit from ACT in the US ?

I guess you have a spare flywheel you can sell to anyone who wants to do their clutch the same way, i.e. in the same weekend ?

nope, you can order what ever evo 7/8/9 clutch cover & disk combo you wanted,

only thing that stopped me getting a complete kit was shipping cost to NZ is ridiculous (around $150USD for a complete kit to NZ)

$500usd for a HD act kit + $150usd to NZ = $650usd = $1130nzd + misc other bits,

still not a cheap exercise if you do it that way.

rebuilding a used cover saved me a fair bit of cash, so im happy,

i may build up another kit just for ****s and giggles if i can find another cheap evo cover,

and yes i have a spare flywheel (evo 8 & vr4)
