View Full Version : Intermitant Hic-cup ?

Difficult one to explain, but recently we have had a few occassions where we have accelerated quickly from say 30mph upwards and the car has sorted of "coughed" or "stuttered" for a fraction of a second and then carried on as normal.

There is no pattern to it - engine was not cold etc, but it happended three times to Shaz today, each time when she accelerated quickly when already moving (e.g. from 30mph to 45mph up a hill).

Any ideas ?

Pete

There used to be a small 'hic up' when blipping the accelerator in my 200SX, usually around 4k, replaced the plugs and it hasn't happened since.

Again that uses those fancy plugs that are meant to last for 60k miles or something! I'm sure even though they are rated for that length of time they can still get crudded up like any other so it could be a possibility that is your problem.

Are you sure it wasn't fuel cut? I only ever get it in 3rd or 4th when I nail it and it doesn't change down.............................

As for the spark plugs.....well its worth a try, there is an excellent article somewhere! ;)

Yeah I know the article you mean Dave ;) Will keep an eye on it and see what happens - may knock the boost back a tad too

I just got it when playing drag races. Basically I put my foot down from static hit 20mph and lurched, then it went ok again. My car doesn't have any boost controller on, it's standard apart from my panel filter. :/

It could be a slight glitch with the boost mate and the ECU cuts in ????

Well did an ECU reset last night and took her for a good blast up and down the motorway and down the country lanes (lost of chance to floor it out of corners) and nothing happened. Popped in to see AP Motors and he said possible plugs too so will keep an eye on it - he also mentioned they have had some FTO's in before that should also have platinum plugs fitted and they were standard ones, so the fact mine where suppose to have been done some 8k miles ago could be irrelevant if the right ones arn't in.

Have you checked the leads for any arcing?

On my last car something similar happened and I went to the dealer asking what it could be. I thought it maybe the leads, they said in the 8 or so years this car has been out we have never sold any leads. Hmm I thought, guess what the problem was!!

I just run the engine and close the bonnetwith just enuff gap to see in the engine bay. See if anything lights up.
