Er yeah, after a 2000-2002 manual VR-4, prefer black but happy for silver

You'd be better to buy an auto one and convert it rather than trying to look for a manual. Col has a nice one for sale at the moment.

I was considering that, but apparently the likelyhood of the gearboxes being a straight swap ain't good and the cost wouldn't be worth it would it?

If you mean the RALLIART one, i'd love it but the only problem would be insurance. For a basic VR-4 bout a grand, for that one... all three quotes came in at exactly £5000

'tis in the For Sale Forum!

http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35411

And who's told you that they're not a straight swap?! Nick Mann can testify that there is certainly work involved (it IS like major surgery!), but it's mostly about making sure you have the right ancillaries, AFAIK.

The cost is mitigated by the fact you would have a saleable auto gearbox too...

They are indeed a straight swap, myself and Nick Mann have done it, no problems at all.

As for your insurance quote, there is no mechanical difference between one sold new in the UK such as Col's or an import. Have you tried Adrian Flux or Skye Insurance?

Really, really tempted by cols ralliart.
The guy I asked bout swaaping boxes did mention about the ancillaries, (er, what does AFAIK mean)

As for insurance, I'll check and get back

well you could ask me or nick mann to do convert it , i did one over the xmas break and have a complete list of the parts required .

also you could leave it auto for a period of time to see how you get on with it

I'll keep this in mind, thanks. Prob will keep auto for a bit, mostly for money reasons.

Agree with above.

Buy and try the tiptronic.

I was a 'auto-hater' till I got my vr4.

Haha, sorry about that.

Insurance is fun at 19! Not!

Try Sky Insurance or Lifesure for a quote. They know about VR-4s, so should be able to help.

You might find it's worth getting a V6 first, which are excellent cars, and pretty cheap at present, as a stepping-stone. A lot of members have gone that route.

One of the main reasons i got my first vr4 was that the insurance was so damn cheap for the type of car it was.

Bonus. :)

it is fun actually.
my first car was and still is a 1998 mitsi colt 1.6 glx, cost me £1800 for the car and £1600 for the first years insurance. best part was one of the quotes was a little over 10k
second years insurance was £750 with custom body kit and custom twin pipe exhaust

Oh yeah - I'm not so keen on the new colt, but the 'CJ' shape colts are awesome little rev-boxes! /Devil5 It was the best bit about taking my GLS into Mitsubishi for servicing - They had a couple of 1300 colts as curtesy cars! :afro: /Devil5/Devil5

Change of plans. I'm keeping the colt cjo and not bothering with the vr4.

Any particular reason?

Hi Googe

I’m considering selling my V-R4.

Please check out the pics under my handle.

The car is the original MMC 536, Ralliart’s own car. UK car. 1999.

The only difference is that the front driver/passenger windows have been tinted to help the appearance.

But the car is unmolested.

Milage >70k just.

Recently serviced by Roy Haslet of Rally Car preparing fame.

As for insurance, we are with first alternative @ £438/year.

Let me know what you think.

Adrian

Christ on a bike, that's a car with some history there! AFAIK it was only MMC 536 and T610 MOF that Colt cars used as the 'Glamour' models! :afro:

Adrian - is it worth calling Colt Cars and seeing if they've got a hertiage collection? Might be an interesting addition!

Hi Googe

Er don't know how to do that.

Reasons, I hear you say?
Well,
1st, can't afford it cos bought something for new years, which got thrown back in my face Tuesday (which leads to 2),
2nd, a bad break up with my fiancee means I don't really have a home at the mo (trying to fix that one) and
3rd, I might be getting a cheap 1994 1.8 Lancer GSR Turbo with an evo 2 body kit and spoiler, which I'll have the engine, transmission, drivetrain, racing seats, steering wheel and possibly other bits out of and then stick them into my colt (the engine will sit just nicely in there).

so i spose the good news is, i'll then have a 1.6 glx colt engine etc, to sell as well as an evo 2 body kit and other lancer bits, which means i should make most of my money back and have a colt that'll contend with your VR-4s.

(note; it probably won't but it'll give it a go)

you better double check on that - arent evo 1 - 3 engines the other way round? I think evo4 -9 will fit tho!

So, I've just had a grands worth of custom body work smashed up this morning.
Someone swerved in front of me as i overtook them on the dual carriage, put me into the crash barrier at 80.
Still getting the GSR though.
