I thought this might serve as a small warning to us all. The GTO is possibly a forerunner to our 8G VR-4. He must have been going over 100kph (60mph).

The NZ Herald (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3558934&thesection=news&thesubsection=general) has a story and pictures.

This more than anything else motivates me to focus on safety versus power.

My Safety Checklist for my VR-4
 Sufficient Power (est.300bhp)(o-60 - est 6sec, 150mph)
 Tiptronic Tranmission (Both hands on the wheel)
 Airbags for both Front Seats
 Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS)
 Active Stability Control (ASC)
 Traction Control (TCL)
 Active Yaw Control (AYC)
 Four Wheel Drive (4WD)
 Lowered Suspension (Lower Centre of Gravity)
 17" Alloy Wheels (Allow for better tyres, Lighter unsprung weight)

Maximum Perfomance Tyres (getting Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 next Week
Better Brakes needed (more research required)

He must have been going over 100kph (60mph).

....and the rest!!, to result in that carnage.

Hit a tree and all your manufacturers safety devices are worth nothing.

Is there a big problem in NZ with 'car meets'? Our UK plods 'monitor' them, but have no powers to stop law-abiding motorists meeting up and showing each other their cars at a legitimate meeting place.

NZ "boy-racer bye-laws" sound like a step too far?

RE: Safety: I consider most safety features accident avoidance tools. Once you hit then all you have is Airbags and Seatbelt.

RE: Boy Racers: It's the illegal drags they are really against.
