View Full Version : Associate Membership

Can I suggest that there be an associate membership? This should be available to those who have previously been full members, or are widows/SOs, and do not need access to the technical articles, etc but may still want access to the member's area general forum and the chatroom. No membership goodies, or anything like that, very much a no-frills membership, and have that for something like £5 per year?

Any views?

good idea and would still keep some funds going to the club

Personally I think its a good idea.

With my committee hat on it does require some thought and discussion, but I still think it a good idea.

The difficult question is how much associate membership would cost or would they be processed on a case by case basis.

One option that comes to mind is where an associate membership is purchased at the full membership price but is renewed at no extra cost to the primary membership yearly.

Of course I don't really have any say when it comes to UK memberships, but I will bring this up with the NZ committee for sure.

does sound good.... maybe if pricing was scaled on how long you were a fully paid member?

Good Idea!

"My" Legnum is owned three ways, two more associate memberships would make the club a tenner/year.

Makes sense for someone like yourself Isaac, or Lilly where you have moved on car wise but still want to hang out.

Exactly brad - which is why I suggested that it be open to former full members or widows only. It shouldn't be open to newcomers.

Personally I think £5 would be reasonable. All that I would be looking for is access to chat, and the members forum (ie the general, driver stories, etc) without access to technical info, membership stuff (eg pen, keyring) and show discounts. No doubt some discussion is necessary regarding access to discounts like the Amsoil discount (which I was involved in setting up).

Off hand I can think of a fair few people who might be interested (I can not speak for them of course), who have not renewed their membership in the past few months, but might go for associate membership.

I also think that some idea's like this should be put to a members vote rather than just a commitee vote.

Anybody got some sun cream I can borrow? :sunny:

Oops, sorry, that was supposed to be on the committee forum...

Anyway, I think this is an excellent idea, and Isaac has pretty much laid out what seem to be some of the most sensible terms. I expect there would be some setting up required in the background, although I know not how easy that may or may not be. Given that it is generating positive interest, I imagine that this could well be something that we will look to drive forward soon. IMO, it can only benefit the club!

Just some feedback peeps, that discussions are ongoing within the committee to find the best overall package and implementation of this idea for everyones benefit......but we are working on the fine tuning and hope to finalise things within a few days.

So what's the crack then? How will associate memberships work - As in, what will associates see and not, and how does it work at events (when determining places on stands and such).

Just testing the forum permissions setup and such.

Still discussing the finer points, but it looks like its a deffinate so might as well get the forum setup done while I have some spare time.

Thanks for helping Lilly :)
