I want to put a 6a13tt in my 96 diamante possibly convert it to manuel as well but not to fussed on that part. Does anyone know what is involved in this conversion ie i know i gotta change the loom and ecu but do they plug up to the in car diamante loom?

None of us here will know that for sure, but I highly doubt the loom will plug in

isnt the engine around the wrong way?

I know the engine will bolt straight in and have to use a vr4/legnum gearbox its just the electrical part I am unsure on and don't really wanna do conversion then have a huge autoelectrical bill to get it going

No its the same way engine drivers side and gearbox passengers side

I'd say your best bet would be to get a VR-4 ECU and full loom. I happen to know of one for sale from Subaru ETA :)

How exactly do you know that the engine swaps straight in?

already looked at a legnum engine and all mounts and everything is exact

youll need to change the complete frontal looms, all wiring from the engine bay to the dash loom and even the l/h,and r/h loom running to the rears and then fuse the wiring correctly to match the diamantes corresponding connections to keep evrything running ok,as for the rest, the best bet wud be to get a 4wd version if its possible and also a very good strong an stable suspension as those are real driftwood style cars,i had 1 and man,it like a ship in rough seas...Brad the engines swap i was looking into a GTO engine in a lgnum, remember?? im sure i spoke to you boys bout this tho, ages ago

thanks for the info sounds like it might not be worth the financial side to do it. My car is already the 4wd model but gettting the plugs changed on the interior loom would cost s**t loads no doubt

no man,its cost efficient if you know the ropes and the right crowds, remember its never what you know but WHO you know.. um what i ment was that the looms all need to match upto the vr4 looms in the front, what you do from the splitter to the rears is upto you,id just single out the wires upfront and re wire them down the sides with the correct plugs etc,its simple as,but as for the conversion ie,fitment etc,id love to see if it does, keep us postd tho man,you can buy a complete wreck for like under 2k and then youll have all the bits you need

What about simply putting a TD05 onto your current engine? What spec engine is it? A 3.0 model? Hopefully non-GDI?

I don't think they ever made the AWD diamante's in GDI brad, so he should be safe there.

Agreed, my mate and I briefly looked into putting a 6A13TT in his 1999 Diamante, the time, money and effort needed to do it, you may as well buy a VR-4 :)

Don't get me wrong, I think it would be great!! Would be the last thing you'd expect!

Didn't some of the diamantes come out 4WD too? Or maybe even north south the engine and go RWD!

Depending on the year, you would be much better off using a 6g72TT from a GTO.

Should be a much easier swap, especially if the Diamante is already AWD.

its a 1996 and i had wondered if that engine would be easier

I have just looked at a few gto's on the net and that would't work as the engine and gearbox setup is around the wrong way

Does it spin in a different direction, or just positioned the other way?

I'm pretty sure they're just positioned the other way. They should bolt up to the Diamante transmission when rotated.

Goku

Yep it will, heck you can even shoehorn the GTO motor into the 7G galant.

Yeah, I was considering getting a 6G74 (3.5 litre) with twin turbo heads from 3si and putting that into the ute legnum!

Goku

They do it in the states a bit, cos they have a 7G that comes standard with the 6G72 non turbo.

what is involved in flipping the engine around though. I know you would have to turn the intake plenum around but do you have to do anything else

taupodrifta
30-01-2009, 10:14 AM
what about wiring looms matching up though

Goku
30-01-2009, 08:32 PM
You would most probably have to run a custom loom

what about the intake plenum though cause even if i flip it the throtle body is on the wrong side

Goku

Custom :)

It can be done, you'll just have to look at it very carefully, and you will need a fair bit of custom work, or knowledge of other parts that will bolt up instead.
